    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I've heard about fuel starvation and read about it here. While I'm in the tinker mode, would installing an electric fuel pump be worth the effort? Has anyone done this before? Mostly caused by in-line filters, I like the idea of an extra filter, but... Suggestions or ideas welcome. Thanks in advance.

My replacement vacuum petcock seems to be flowing well enough. (I didn't have time for a thorough test last night. This afternoon should be fun...) Also, these engines are known to go 100,000 miles, so it seems the extra filter isn't necessary, unless your tank needs attention. I guess in that case, the tank needs attention. I can't think of a reason to do it to carbs, other than for the tinker factor.

But I do think a lot about a fuel injection conversion, so adapting a high-pressure pump would be necessary at some point.
 
An in-line filter is fine as long as you use the proper kind - the ones with a brass stone inside. Lawn mower stores often carry them. What you don't want is a paper filter intended for automotive use since there can be a pressure loss using one.
 
Keep in mind that the floats on these carbs are meant to hold back the pressure of just a few inches worth of gravity-induced pressure. Most fuel pumps would tend to overpower them without even breathing hard. Personally, I think it would take about the less time and far less effort to get your system running correctly than it would to cobble together an electric pump into the system.

I am with the others...if you insist on using an extra filter, use one designed for a gravity-fed system.

Pretty much what I expected. More effort than what it's worth. Just thinking outloud more or less. Will most likely stick to stock. I think I would like to dress up the fuel line by replacing it with braided SS. Any sources known? Would the teflon cored line used for brakes work? If so what size would the fuel line be?

Z1 has clear fuel line. I use it. Love the sight of the gas pulsing through it.
