A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    650G oil change

You don't need to remove the clutch cover to drain the secondary oil. The 2nd drain bolt is visible just in front of the gear lever, the 1st being in the middle of the sump.

    Oil Filter Cover

Some models have a drain bolt in the "hole" that you refer to. My Katana 650 is one of them but my GS1000G doesn't.

Adjustinf stiffness of a Gs650G Katana front fork.

Should be harder when the adjuster is lower. If you take the top off the fork you'll see how it works.

Adjustinf stiffness of a Gs650G Katana front fork.

If they are the same as mine then they have 2 preload positions. You turn the top with a screwdriver to stiffen them up. Sounds like your springs have sagged and you either need new ones or you could put a spacer between the top of the spring and the top cap. Look Here

Need help putting bike back together.

I've got these pictures from before I stripped my 650 Kat down. If they don't help then I'll take some new ones.

1982 650G Oil change: Secondary Drive Gear oil plug?

Reverse thread bolt? First time I've seen that. My GS650 has normal threads on both drain bolts.

1982 650G Oil change: Secondary Drive Gear oil plug?

Have a look at this old thread :- Click Here The 650 does have 2 engine oil drain bolts - one in the usual place and one under the gear lever. The secondary drive uses engine oil for lubrication.

    no carb synch screw

2 left boots are definitely different to the 2 right boots. You could swap 1 with 2 or 3 with 4, but no other options are available. What may help you is that the GS550 with CV carbs uses the same boots. Part numbers :- Left - 13120-47010 Right - 13110 - 47010

GS 650g katana, Gear or shaft "howling"

650 is slightly different. It does have a drain plug near the gear stick but the secondary box uses the same oil as the engine/gearbox. When you do an engine oil change you take both drain plugs out as opposed to one on the other GS's. Replace them and then fill up as normal. Personally I would...

Rough idle when on side stand

If it's only water in the carbs I would remove the petrol in the them via the drain plugs - a lot easier than removing and stripping the carbs if they don't need doing!

'Baby' Kats - info needed please.

I can't remember seeing gold wheels but there again it was along time ago. How have the wheels been painted? Suzuki left the rims and the edges of the spokes as shiny alloy. When it comes to spraying most people cannot be bothered to mask it all off and end up spraying the lot. (as in my 650...

    Updates with pics

I have a Kat 650 but I honestly don't know whether the sump is the only difference between the Kat and a 650G. Anyone who wants to chance it could possibly get a 650 Kat sump off Ebay UK (if the seller will post to USA). - item number 220360719194 which has a very good picture on for bolt...

'Baby' Kats - info needed please.

The petrol tank is interchangeable between the 2 models, unfortunately the side panels are different and seats are different. Rear end is the same, the forks at least on mine are different, 37mm and 35mm. Exhausts are not the same as the 650 has a smaller diameter pipe at the engine end.

'Baby' Kats - info needed please.

Both the 650 and 550 have 8 valve motors. The 550 is the engine that was fitted into the normal GS550's. The 650 has the engine with shell main bearings. Seeing the comments about other Kats. Suzuki actually produced a GSX250 Kat in the early 90's for the home market which is styled the same...

'Baby' Kats - info needed please.

I cannot remember black 550's, though that doesn't mean that there weren't any. (it is a long time ago) Here's a link to microfiche's from cmnsl for the Katana tanks. I think this is for the american model which shows 2 colours, red and silver for the 550. 550 Kat Here's one to the 650...

'Baby' Kats - info needed please.

Thanks for the kind comments about the bikes. The seat on the 550 is not original, it is made by a company called 2 4. The one on the 650 is original and in very good condition for 26 years of age. The 650 has been fully stripped and powder coated. You have probably noticed that the tank decals...

'Baby' Kats - info needed please.

I have both a GS550 Kat and a GS650 Kat. I actually bought a 550 from new in 1982 which was silver. Both current bikes are silver with red seat, suspension, calipers and discs, wheels are white. If I remember correctly the 650 only came into the UK as silver but the 550 could also be bought as...
