    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

650G oil change

a few 650 shaftie questions, if i may...

decided to change my oil today, and decided to finally drain the secondary gear chamber. as i understand it, the 650G shares the general motor oil in lubing the secondary gear stuff (pardon my lack of terminology). unlike the 850G on basscliff's tutorial. nonetheless, i figured i needed to take off the clutch pedal, and remove the secondary cover.

i could not get the cover off. and so, my questions:

1. at the lower right of the cover, there is an ear, through which the clutch pedal axle feeds. this is where i got hung up. after removing the bolts around the cover, do i just slide it over the axle? seemed like an awfully tight fit, and i didn't want to force it until i understand how it is supposed to go.

2. while i'm down there putzing around, i noticed a plug that extends below, and behind the cover. is there any chance this plug IS the drain for the secondary gear? if so, i wouldn't need to take the cover off at all it would seem.

i hope this makes sense. i figured for the time being, yet again, i'd forego the draining of that chamber. my bike is running pretty well, and didn't want to ruin things while the season draws to a close. thanks.
 
You don't need to remove the clutch cover to drain the secondary oil. The 2nd drain bolt is visible just in front of the gear lever, the 1st being in the middle of the sump.
 
thank you. that certainly simplifies things for my next oil change.

what about the secondary cover? anyone? do you just pull it off the clutch pedal axle?

(with any luck i won't ever have to go in there, but i'm curious now.)
 
Not the clutch cover, the cover behind the shift lever.
 
i guess i'm not getting my question across properly.:confused: i had the screws off. what i can't figure is how to slide the cover off the clutch pedal axle.....do i just pull? i could barely get the cover to budge, and i didn't want to force things until someone tells me, yeah, just pull.

i'll have to find my camera so you fellas know what i'm trying to say.

edit: i just looked at basscliff's 850G tutorial again...near as i can tell you just pull it off.

Yes, just give the cover a pull. It may want to hang up on the gear shift rod, but should slide off without too much effort.

To drain oil, the secondary drain plug is located on the bottom of the case near the gear shift lever, you don't have to remove this cover to get to it. Unfortunately it will dump oil over the frame and exhaust pipes while draining.
 
clutch pedal axle vs. gear shift rod. hahaha. i'm still getting the terminology down, as you can see.
