A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Rebuilding GS 700 carbs need help please

Wiggle Wiggle I figured that little trick out, too. Sometimes it works really well. Also, if you put it in place and hold it in the goove with your 3 inside fingers on both hands and your thumbs on the bottom for 30 seconds, or so, sometimes it will 'stay put' long enough for...

    Front Sprocket Removal

Leverage Leverage I'd try putting a pipe on the breaker bar to extend its length a little bit. Additional leverage, even a small amount, can often make a huge amount of difference.:-s

Thanks! Thanks! Thanks for the good scoop.:) I think it was only wrong on the 80-81 fiches but, of course, they made no correction when they figured it out.:(

Should the Carbs be this difficult to reinstall?

Carbs Carbs Threre's a guy in my town who only works on old bikes and I asked him what the trick is to getting the carbs back on the bike. He replied, "There isn't one." Getting them back on my '80 GS750L was a miserable experience although I did notice that it got easier after doing it a...

Battery Battery I would still check the battery first.:p

    possible charging problem?

Nahhhh Nahhhh Probably not. You can't really check the condition of your charging system without first checking out the condition of your battery. You need to charge it up and then see if it will hold a charge (off of the bike). If it doesn't, buy a new battery. If it does, put it on the bike...

Loctite Loctite Using Loctite or any similar product on your carbs is a BAD idea if you intend to keep the bike.....and it's a CRUEL idea if you plan on selling it.;)

Tank liner whos not using it?

Liner Liner I had my 750 lined but suspected problems with it after about 7 years. My 1100 isn't lined and 'runs like a champ'. I don't use an inline filter and have no plans to line the tank.

    Battery Draining

Stator Stator If it went totally dead in a couple of weeks while just sitting, the Stator Papers are a little premature. You've got some kind of a parasitic drain and you should have little problem figuring it out. First of all, disconnect your battery and charge it up...and see it it holds...

    Oil level window

Patience Patience Yeah, you've got to be really patient because it takes a few minutes for all of it to make it's way down there. It's very easy to put in too much. If you do, it's a hassle to drain some of it out....but you've got to do it. When you first fire it up, a little of it is...

Scalpel Scalpel I always cut through them with a scalpel. But, don't cut your finger! By the way, there's really no need to dip the needle valve assembly in the 'drink'.

    carb. sync.

Great Great If you're between 2 1/2 and 3, you'll almost, for sure, be fine. If you got fairly close with your Carbtune, you'll be fine, for certain....it doesn't have to be perfect and it rarely is. (I have one and have experimented a little.) Have fun!:)
