Thank you, thank you. That's the answer. The crossover.

    CV Carb sync

Just curious. My brother is getting himself a set of Morgan gauges and I was thinking about adjusting my CV's on the 1100 8 valve. The manual shows that the two inner carbs are set at a lower vacuum. Can anyone tell me the reason for this?

    Engine Stumble at 2300 rpm

So, I'm just throwing this out to see if anyone can possible point me in the right direction. 82 GS1100GL 8 valve. Bike always runs very strong but I noticed mostly this year, when you're rolling up the throttle, at about 2300-2500, you get a bit of a stumble, otherwise, it runs great. I also...

    Speedometer needle bounce

So, it's starting. The speedo needle on my 82 1100 starts to bounce between 50 and 60 after riding awhile. Time for a replacement gauge?

    Brake Fluid Question

Ok, just one more time....... I'm going to flush my system over the winter. I bought a vacuum pump to basically flush the system by adding to the master cylinders until it runs clean. So the question is, my bike says DOT 3,4. Should I stay with DOT4 as I've read that DOT 5 fluid is silicone...

    GS1000G battery suggestions

I'll say this again, and you can laugh if you want. I just bought my second WalMart Ever Start. The first one lasted since 2001. Of course it stays in the basement (with the bike) over the winter and I keep a trickle charger on it. But, for $36.00 and the past history of the first one, why not...

1983 Suzuki GS 1100 ESD Tach

For what it's worth in regards to the IC. Try B&D Enterprises, www.bdent.com They're a semiconductor warehouse. I found a chip to repair my ECU unit on my snowmobile a few years back. Chip cost $14.95 versus the ECU unit at almost a grand.

    penatrating oil

I'm a fan of PB Blaster too, but my friend swears by Kroil. I've seen that stuff do some amazing things on rusted nuts and bolts. I may get some next time through the auto parts store.

    Discolored exhaust pipes

Yeah, I bought a kit to remove the bluing. It would change it from blue to a sort of golden brown. But, after a few rides, the blue was back. So, I just didn't bother with it any more.

HOW MUCH FUEL STABIL for 5 gal tank ?

StaBil says 1 oz. per 2.5 gallons of gas, so 2 oz's. I usually add it towards the end of the season so I know it's worked its way into the system. If I ride longer that expected, I top the tank off again with gas and add the appropriate amount of stabilizer.

    Service Bulletin - Starter Button.

That's interesting. When I bought my second 82 1100L a few years back, I noticed that the starter button wasn't the original plastic one, but a metal button. Maybe it was a replacement you refer to in the service bulletin.

    Stuck starter?

I don't know if this is related, but the same thing happened to me last year, but at the end of the season. Last ride of the year. Changed the oil and filter. Started the bike up ok but stalled it somehow. Went to start it again and nothing. Just the solenoid click. Push started it fine and...

    Ignition Timing

Why, this is odd. I have the factory shop manual. In it, it lists the GS1100G timing as: 17 degrees BTDC below 1500rpm 37 degrees BTDC aboue 2350 BUT, the supplementary service section for the GS100GLZ (82) and GLD (83) shows: 13 degrees BTDC below 1500rpm 33 degrees BTDC above 2350 Interesting...

    A Speedometer Question

I think I found the answer to my own question. The speed sensor is used for telling the self cancelling signals to turn off. It counts distance and speed. It can be tested by using an ohm meter and turning the speedo drive. You should see it make and break. So, I think I just bought a junk speedo.

    A Speedometer Question

I understand the purpose of the speed senor in regards to the self cancelling turn signals. And, it's my original speedo cable. The next question is: Is the wiring for the speed sensor for the purpose of the self cancelling signal, or is it used for the speedo itself? Interesting.

    A Speedometer Question

Here's an interesting one. I bought an 83 speedo for my 82 1100L off eBay. Basically, they changed it to 140mph in 83 from the 85mph one thats on the bike. The drive gear and cable part numbers are the same for both years. But, I tried it temporarily hooked up to just the speedo cable and it...

    A GMC 2500HD brake question....

I think I've got it. They're disc rears. I can get the tool to turn the piston back in. The cheapie tool is around nine dollars that goes on the end of a socket wrench. Press and turn, press and turn. Shouldn't be too much of a problem.
