DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

If there's pressure from that bolt on the rotor still,I'd try some more taps.:-D

    Help please...

Let me see if I can help. The tool is a threaded cylinder with a threaded hole in the top. Into that threaded hole ay the top goes a bolt. You thread the cylinder until it is tight. Then Tighten the bolt to put pressure on the crank, freeing the rotor. Did you Loosen that bolt instead of...

    Flatten an L seat?

It's a multiple problem kind of situation. There's no room to slide back and forward,I'm locked into an uncomfortable-knees up/feet forward position. I'm also kinda low. I figured if I could fill in the front portion (that touches gas tank) even with the back,it would be a bit closer to a UJM. I...

    Flatten an L seat?

I'll be getting my 91 650GL back in a month or so. It's a fun bike but that L seat has got to go. I can't ride it an hour without it getting uncomfortable. I'm assuming I can't just put an e seat in it's place (If I could that would be great, can I?) My thought is to get a 650L seat pan off some...

    Starter won't engage

That's correct. The difficulty is (on mine) it hadn't been loosened since the factory installed it 25 years ago. My manual spec'd the torque at 115 lbs (I think). That's TIGHT! BTW Chef- I wish you wouldn't point out to the whole world I don't have any friends. *

    Starter won't engage

I recently did this procedure on an 82 1100G. I bought an impact gun (electric) from Harbor Freight for cheap. Worked like a charm getting that rotor nut off. NOTHING else worked. Earlfor suggested a giant homemade version of an oil filter tool. I was too frustrated to try it. You'll need that...

    clutch basket

Well, I'm sure SOME of your posts get answered with something good, hehe. Have you tried posting in the parts wanted section? Another idea is E-bay;checking all ads for gs1000 parts. Sometimes they part out a bike but only mention it in ads for specific parts. I know this doesn't answer your...

Stock Airbox VS serate carb filter.

Or you can go with the short answer---DON'T!!! Leave it stock,it just ain't worth it. (just a fool's humble opinion. Do what ya wanna do-it's your bike. hehe.)

    I give up!

I have nothing technical to add. I'm just thankful I'm not strong enough to pick a GS up and throw it at a wall because I'm sure I've been frustrated enough to do it. I admire your tenacity and I'm sure you'll get it figured out. What a success story that'll be! Keep plugging away! Those of us...

    gs650g starter.

My thinking is it's not the starter but the starter clutch. I'd bet one or two of the three bolts are sheared off. Have you heard a "Bang" anytime you started before this problem? The stuff thereabouts can get pricey,I'd make sure I was replacing only what was broke. Hopefully our best...

    Help!!!

I'm DONE DONE DONE... and riding! What an easy repair. As soon as I got the right tools and parts it wasn't too bad. Thanks for the help guys. Without this site I probably wouldn't have attempted it. If someone uses the search feature and found this-Get an impact wrench and the rotor puller. I...

    generator? altornator? stator? something lol

The stuff hereunder assumes that you have a basic knowledge of electricity, up to the point that you know that electricity can be dangerous, and up to the point that you understand the difference between amperage and voltage, and AC and DC. If you don't, please, for the sake of your health and...

http://www.thegsresources.com/garage/gs_statorfacts.htm Here's the best starting point. Do you have a manuel? I'm assuming 81 850 is this correct? Take a deep breath, help is on its way. Until they show up I'll ask some questions. You're sure you have a charging problem? Did you follow the...
