A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    78 GS 750 Rebuild

Some progress on a few fronts... I (loosely) wired everything up to test. 20180619_235526 by samL9, on Flickr 20180619_235357 by samL9, on Flickr 20180619_235343 by samL9, on Flickr 20180619_235548 by samL9, on Flickr 20180619_235631 by samL9, on Flickr Everything works, but I do have a...

Needle Jets need to match Needes?

Thanks for taking the time to write out all that detail, Keith. Definitely helpful. Chuck - Thanks for the offer on the needles. I'll see how I make out with the 5DL36 needles, but if I need to adjust I'll definitely take you up on it. Makes sense to me now about the difference in the...

Needle Jets need to match Needes?

I had originally planned on using the needles I had, and just moving the clips. What started this was that the slide fell out of one of the carbs when I was pulling it off the shelf and landed right on the tip of the needle...the needle got bent pretty badly and needed to be replaced. I was...

4 ohm vs 3 ohm coils

Accel and Dyna seem to be the most highly regarded. I've personally used Accel on a couple of old UJMs (GS and Honda CB), and have always been pleased with the quality, performance, and reliability

    Welding is super easy...

Not a bad idea on the community college. My township also has a bunch of 'adult education' courses, so I can check to see if they have a welding class. I think they offered some community classes at the vo-tech back in the day, so I can look into that too. It's definitely a lot of fun so far...

I hear you Pete... My list is short now too, but still looking to take some time. Disappointing... A few posts back when I mentioned how I started with the engine after getting a rolling chassis, and you started with paint, etc. you said when you did it that way on your 450, you were tempted to...

You're a brave man welding on the frame, Dorkburger.... Like TxGSrider, I think I'd probably take anything like that to a shop for now...

    Welding is super easy...

I think getting a higher quality welder definitely would have helped, but for the amount of welding I would do I couldn't justify the cost. An angle grinder and flap wheel is definitely on the shopping list for the near future, Posplayer. For the trial runs/practice, I was just using my Dremel...

    Welding is super easy...

and really freaking hard! It's a lot of fun... and incredibly frustrating. I finally bit the bullet and bought a welder. This one --->https://www.harborfreight.com/flux-125-welder-63583.html After needing a crack in my frame welded and some brackets welded on to the frame, and paying and...

Should've just cut the tach in half

Like the title says... Next time I need to dig in to one of these gauges, I'll either pry from the bottom or just cut the sucker in half. ...the more you know.

Should've just cut the tach in half

Thanks for all the advice, guys. The tach worked fine, but the light deflector had come loose and was rattling around inside... Either way, thanks to Cowboyup I've got a replacement on the way!

Should've just cut the tach in half

20180624_230734 by samL9, on Flickr This is where I'm at right now. The bezel split halfway prying it up, and the rest of the way bending it back down... I need to find a replacement bezel, but not having much luck... Any ideas?

Should've just cut the tach in half

I'm hoping someone on here can help out with info on a bezel from another vehicle/gauge that will fit (since most don't list measurements, just what they'll fit), or some other bracket, etc. that will hold the glass in place, and still fit in the plastic gauge case...

Should've just cut the tach in half

I'm sure I can find some kind of rubber (or silicone if it comes to that) to seal it, but in looking for a bezel I'm coming up short and need some ideas... I measured it to be 102mm inside diameter. I found some at 85mm, some at 110mm here...

Should've just cut the tach in half

I already got it open by prying, now I need to get it back together. I found a bunch of write ups, and I too thought that prying would be less intrusive. I made a mess of it though... I broke the bezel and shredded the seal prying from the top (some of the write ups said you can pry from the top...

Should've just cut the tach in half

...and glued it back together. I thought it would be easier to pry the metal cover off to get at the guts. Now the metal ring is broken, and the rubber that seals the glass is pretty shredded. Before I wander around Home Depot looking for something that would work... Anyone here been in the same...
