  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

1000 HONDA regulator for GS 1000 ??

hey

have seen some of the honda to suzuki posts, but ive got one from about a 79 honda 1000 that has two sets of wires running to two connectors.

wires are 3 yellow, one white, one black going to one connector and a red, green and black running to the other connector.

looks to be in good shape so wondering if anyone has a clue as to whether or not it can work and how to do so !

although i dont want to go there, i also have a dual system from an 80 GS 1000 -- seperate regulator and rectifier i presume, and this would only require making jumpers to accomodate what seems to be normal suzuki wiring colors !

any ideas peoples ?

i spend all day in front of 4 monitors doing stock trading, have 2 broadband lines coming in, can communicate with my computers and therefore anywhere else thru my cell phone, but i do not own a digital camera !

im sorry !

the honda regulator looks just like a normal suzuki, but for the number of wires and that its a tad larger and appears to be more robust. the dual unit regulator and rectifier assemblies are smaller than a single unit and what i presume to be the rectifier is 1.5 X 2.0 X 1.5 high and has a yellow wire and a white with blue stripe wire plus the usual ground wire -- and the only part of the part # remaining is .... 500-49010 and i cannot determine the manufacturer. also, it bolts into the existing mounting bracket for the suzuki combo regulator/rectifier.

what i imagine may be the regulator is finned aluminum, approx 1.5 X 2.0 X 0.5 inches high and has 4 wires --- yellow, red, white with blue stripe and yellow with red stripe plus the usual ground wire -- it carries part # DS16TES-L and C6X04 and was manufactured by Mitsubishi Electronics.

The extra black wire and the white one are a bit of a problem. Usually one black goes to switched 12 volts, the other one may be an additional ground or something else. The white one is unknown.

What year and model is this from? Perhaps if I could see a siring diagram I could figure it it, and there is bound to be one on the web somewhere

The connections for those wires as used on Honda's are:
Red to battery positive
Green to battery negative
3 yellow to stator
White to field or brush 1
Black to field or brush 2
Blue to switched 12 volts (positive)

The problem is I dont believe there are any existing connectors in the Suzuki charging system to accept the Honda black and white leads.

Also, you're lacking the common switched 12 v blue lead. I think Duane is right, we need a wiring diagram. :-)

I don't know where they would find field brushes on the stator, I am willing to venture that the extra wires are for an external regulator.

If this was froma Goldwing GL 1000 I would also suspect it provided accessory power.

thnx muchly for your interest. the honda was a 1979 1000 4 cylinder, but i do not know the model number unfortunately ! for what its worth, it had a single rotor disc brake on the front and rear drum brakes and a very small 2 person seat. used 120/90/17 rear tire and 3.25/3.50 (approx) X 19 front tire, like our bikes !

the id on the regulator reads: 12V REGULATOR/RECTIFIER
SH236-12 has a small grey box with 8.9 printed within (actually looks like one of those "scratch off boxes" with a number inside that you scratch off the top layer to reveal. and was manufactured by SHINEDENGEN.

The GL 1000 was made from the early 70's and it was the original Goldwing. They were sold naked and outfitted by the owners. Honda picked up on this and offerend them stacked later in the 80's since the dealers were doing it and making money at it. I work with a man that had a 76 Gl 1000 that he traded for a new one, his was still naked.

I test road a 1980 CBX in 1985 that was for sale for 1500 dollars. Not buying it was a big mistake. 6 exhaust pipes and a magnificent sound under full throttle.

GOT IT --- matched it as a cb750 regulator (by the part number)

where would i find a wiring diagram do you think ?

Those are the connections as per wiring codes for Honda R/R's. I dont have a list of which Honda models used R/Rs with that color code.

Everywhere I look on the net someone wants to sell a manual or a wiring diagram, the days of posting free such things are drawing to a close. Ask again in the techical page if anyone has a manual for that cb750 ( we do have some adulterers that ride Hondahhs) and maybe they can tell you where each wire ends up. At least you'll be able to make an informed decision about using it.
I would try and fine a CX500 reg, they are almost a bolt in for the Suzukis and easier to rewire, and are cheap on ePay.

That is what I have and search for Honda Regulator Mod to see my picture of where the wires go.

and will see what is to be seen -- although i prob wont have a clue !

Forget it - It is designed to work with the external 7 volt regulator for the dashboard. There is an additional field in the case that provides a low voltage supply to the second regulaotr. I would not use it since it may depend on that second regulator and CX500 boxes are plentiful.

Nice find on the wiring diagram. I think your honda regulator is from the automatic version, the 750A, a rare bike today indeed.
 
I found this on a chopper site. Its pretty simple, but the problem remains that Suzuki doesnt have a matching number of terminals.
