After I completely dissassembled and cleaned out the carbs the bike it STILL only running with the choke on, it just idles at a high RPM. Trying to give the bike gas might make it rev a little but only to bog to a stall after a bit. Turning the choke down does the same thing. It seems like the bike is simply starved for gas and I don't know where to go from here. Any help is appreciated.

How did you clean them?

Is the airbox and filter completely installed?

Exhaust is stock and intact?

If you haven't made changes which would lean it out drastically like those noted above, then it sounds like pilot circuits, and they can be very stubborn to clean. There are emulsion tubes, and a number of tiny passages to get clogged up. Have you pulled the air screws?

I love the 1000G, its a great bike.

Did you totally dissemble the carburetors, soak them for 24 hrs. in carburetor dip, replace the O-rings and set the float height.

OK, I will be the first (850Combat and OldVet beat me to it, so make that third) to ask, ... how did you "completely dissassembled and cleaned out the carbs"?

Did you just spray them out or did you dip each one in "the dip" for a full 24 hours?

.

i took out the main jet and float and needle. let the jet and needle soak, and sprayed the carbs housing with carb cleaner and compressed air the best I could, you guys still think I need to do further cleaning and that there is still something clogging up the carbs?

When you put your "cleaned" carburetors in the carburetor dip, you will see all the crud inside the carburetor bodies you missed boiling out right before your eyes. What you did was a total waste of time. When you see what you missed, you won't be asking this question again, you will have no doubt it is absolutely necessary to do it the proper way. I have the older VM carburetor series, so Steve and others can put you on to the proper tutorials for cleaning and adjusting your carburetors properly.

Yes.....you didnt get a thing out of them deep down inside the tiny passages. there is onlu one way to rebuild and clean carbs..thee are no shortcuts that bare gonna "save you any time" or be >good enough for gubment work". read the carb rebuild turtorial here and get the new orings from Robertbarr here on the forum. His website is cycleorings.com

scroll down a tad from the top and look on the right side...

Yes, that does nothing for the long passages inside the carburetor. Dip them, or use an ultrasonic cleaner, something to get the entire length of those passages clean. Then use a spray can of carb cleaner to ensure all four carbs have all of their passages clear, shoot it in and it should come out the same place on all four. For instance, the pilot circuit should be open to a passage in the air intake end, the pilot jet hole, the mixture screw hole, and the tiny port in the venturi where it all comes together. The choke should also be open to a port in the air intake end, shoot it in the hole in the bottom of the choke plunger well, and should make a star pattern when it comes out the fuel feed pipe in the float bowl. Shoot the spray into any of these holes, where it comes out on all four carbs should be identical.

You will want to wear safety glasses.

Take the bucket out of the can and put 2 carb bodies side by side in the sauce for a FULL 24 HRS..poke the ends of the pilot jets out too..many folks miss these tiny holes. I use a wire from a wire brush as my poker to get all the holes clean in all the jets.

Crap Chuck....I just remembered I'm supposed to look at those horns for you!!!

thank you all, I'm still new at a lot this so I appreciate the guidance, I'm not purposely taking shortcuts and doing a half-ass job, its simply because I am not completely knowledgeable and still learning.

I have all 4 carbs sitting in a big bucket of parts washer and will have them sit for a day or two. I will then take it to work and put it in our parts washer, then lastly use carb and choke cleaner to get every little passage way I can find.

Parts solvent WILL not do the job....go to Walmart and get the dip. Listen to what we are telling you because we have ALL tried the different shortcuts and never got them right till we dipped them. Do it right once or do them wrong 3 or 4 times...your choice.

I have said my piece and will drop the subject.....

Sounds more like starved for air than gas...

Can you get it to idle with the choke off? No rev, just idle?

What exactly is the dip called?

And believe them when the warning says it can soak into the skin and make you sick...it happened to me and i was almost ready to cut my head off to stop the headache. was like that for over 6 hrs. Now I will not get a drop on my hands. Now I use hemos or pliers to get the bodies out of the can and then to the bucket to be rinsed.

Rubber gloves would be the best of all worlds though.

Why are you guys insisting on the weak chem-dip? This is the dip you need to be buying:

It's the original professional formula and you can buy it here: O'reilly's auto parts

Doesn't come in the bucket but I just pour it into a new, unused, paint can for use.
