A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1100G Buzziness Just me and what to do.

Make sure your pistons dont have holes

My experience with melted pistons is limited, but mine did not cause much noticable buzziness. The melted aluminimum which solidified in the exhaust port did hold the exhaust valve open, which increased valve clearance considerably. The increased clearance did set up a pronounced amount of tappet noise.

Initially, there was a considerable amount of smoke, which actually filled even the interior of the car.

With an overhead cam, rather than pushrods, the additional valve clearance may not be so audibly noticable.

We should let Bill explain the onset and aftermath of melted pistons as he has a very recent experience  (sorry more brilliance :-#).

Nice!:)
How many shots did it take?:-s

Tony.

Alternate response

I shot a narrow into the air
It fell to earth, I knew not square
Four-sided it flew, into the night
Rectangled it stopped, with no more flight.

I breathed the shaped fogs into the air
They floated aloft, across the square
For all those flights seeming all along
So vague and nebulous, yet never wrong.

Who would think that those two flights
Could merge together and create such might
Yet the Saxon horns with the klaxon sound
Sent the Angles searching for good ground.

Long, long afterward, my friends we see
Anglo-Saxons in the office oval and free,
And the land they created, beginning to end
Stands mighty and proud, as its peoples did blend.

Quite eloquent; Yours?

This thread is shot to hell.
Melting pistons is my business and business is good.

Yes. I make a little extra effort for Tony.:)

Thank you sir, your wit is much appreciated!:)

Getting back to engine buzz (setting aside tequila-induced buzziness for now), thanks to Rusty Bronco, I found the item causing the sound at 2500 rpm...went out to check the horns, and while they were tight, I noticed the left horn stay was only clearing the frame downtube by a blond one.....enough to make intermittent contact. Bending it a couple mm for clearance solved the issue.:dancing:

Hmmmm .... tequila, horny and tight then intermittent contact and a blond....... sounds like :-$

This thread got a little buggered up with the tequila references. Good times.

I somewhat fixed the problem and thought soemone might be interested.

As someone suggested, I checked all the motor mounts for tightness. Everything was okay except for where the case guards bolted on to the triangular piece of metal that then is bolted to the frame in the front of the engine. I noticed that both bolts were either stripped and not tight and one was broken, Solution, longer stainless bolts and nylock nuts.

When I purchased the bike I noticed that the mufflers (stock) had two ridges running around the circumference of the megaphone. The ridges, I believe, are the inner baffles rusting out. The end of one of the mufflers was also pudhed out and showing rust. (I adjusted my offer accordingly)

I purchased a good stock set of pipes and mufflers from a fellow GS owner that had installed a 4 into 1 on his 1100. I put them on my bike the other night and WoW what difference in the way the bike runs and rides. Much much smoother and it now sounds the way it should.

much improved, and nicer to ride.

Jim
