As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Well, after a sale that didn't go through and a whole lot of sweet talking the wife, I'm keeping my bike. Been doing some cleaning up to it for now til after the move then I'm planning a full rebuild. Got it road legal and been getting some ride time in.

Nothing wrong with owning a GS1000. I have four of them myself. LOL! (2 shafts and 2 chains)

Need some help guys, my bike will completely drain a fully charged battery in 4 days. New battery, clean connections, no shorts that I've found. Could the stator be starting to go bad or they just completely crap out? Haven't got a chance to stick a meter on it yet.

Take a piece of cardboard and poke 3 holes with a phillips screw driver and number each hole 1 thru 3. Unplug the startor and stick one leg in each hole. Start with the NEG probe on 1 and read what AC volts are at 2 and 3..write it down. Move NEG probe to number 2 and check across 3 and 1..then again with the NEG in number 3. If your readings all fall withing the AC volts stated in the manual the stator is ok. So next culprit would be the regulator.
Start with a freshly full charged battery so it wiil stay running when you unplug the stator wires.

Looking to upgrade the coils and ignition too, any suggestions on what to upgrade to? Was looking at different coils and didn't realize there was so many options with size, ohms, etc. What is the ideal rating and what would be some reasons for the higher ohm ones? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm pretty lost when it comes to vehicle electronics.

Ok guys, got a new stator and regulator/rectifier for my bike. Got digging deeper into the wiring, found there was 2 regulators wired up lol. A regulator/rectifier and the original regulator were wired in parallel with each other. Could this have been the problem with my battery not charging? Next question, the wiring diagram shows the one wire of the stator going through the switch then back to the regulator/rectifier, is this necessary and should the red wire off the regulator/rectifier be fused?

Anybody? Trying to get this fixed up, have only got to ride a couple of days this season so far. Itching to get it out some more :)

It sounds pretty unconventional but I would yield to the installation instructions of the R/R manufacturer. My guess is that either the PO didn't realize he had a separate regulator or that he was installing a R/R instead of just a rectifier.

Any ideas on the stator wire going through the switch, is that needed or not? Trying to clean up the wiring but don't want to eliminate something that is needed. From the wiring diagram, I don't see a purpose behind it, unless I'm overlooking something.

You may get more responses if you ask these questions in the electrical section. :)

Not needed. Connect the three stator wires directly to the R/R.

Perhaps it is a stock '78 1000 as they all came with a separate regulator and a separate rectifier as seen here in number 7 & 14?

Exactly - you need to check the wiring diagram for your bike to see where the wires go.

You don't have an R/R, you have separate components. Did you confirm by testing what is bad?

You can reroute the wire that goes to the left handlebar switch directly to the regulator, because that's where it ends up anyway

Got the new stator and R/R installed, and after a battle found out I had some problems with the positive side between the battery and R/R. After a trip to Wal-Mart for a work light and many hours rewiring, I have a healthy charging system (knock on wood).
