If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I have a lithium ion battery that is putting out 13.2 volts. Original battery puts out 12v. Am I going to have issues here or is this ok?

You might have charging issues with this lithium battery- have you checked out your charging system? a new fancy battery is not a cure-all!

Im waiting on a new R/R, but I don't believe I''ll have any problems after that. The R/R was done. The reason I needed to use the lithium ion is because I relocated the battery. It now sits underneath a custom seat. Problem with the original battery is that it was too big to fit, so I had to go with the lithium.

13.2 v under load? nothing to worry about wish my system would manage 13.2 v lol

any 12 volt battery will show higher voltage than its rating when not under load.turn the headlight on while testing the voltage and then you will get a true output voltage.all battery ratings are rated under a load

Ahhh! Ok, makes sense. Ive been working on getting power back to this bike, I got totally screwed by this hack mechanic that took everything apart and wouldn't put it back together for the agreed price. So im trying to follow the wire diagram (never done this before) from bikecliffs, following color leads and attaching them to their counterpart. but I can't seem to get power to the bike. Ive grounded all the black with white stripe wires. but I still have blk/wht stripe with a male end that I have no clue where they go. couple questions.
1. where do the white and black leads from the contact breaker go? Do they go to the ignition coils. The wiring diagram doesn't show me where these go.

2. do the spark plugs need to be in for me to get electrical power?
3. The battery and all the battery box components are working, grounded, with a new R/R as well, and I still have no power to even turn on blinkers or head light.
4. all connecters are good, what am I missing?

My concern wouldn't be the 13.3V static charge. It would be the terminal charge voltage and the charging systems characteristics. LI batteries don't take kindly to overcharging. In fact they like to be run at less then full charge. You'll get much longer life out of a LI battery when only charged to 90% or less. Over charging a LI battery can result in a rapid rise in internal pressure and could result in rupturing and venting flame if certain built in safety features (the CID and safety member) fail.

Personally I'd try to find an AGM battery that fits your size requirement. They can be mounted in any position and that may solve some of your fitment issues.

Put 1979 gs750L in your signature (User CP, top left this page) so others can follow easier.

The spark plugs could be in another country and you'd still be able to power stuff up. If your wiring has been messed with, be careful.

On point plate , one wire goes to left coil other to right coil. Personally, I'd leave these disconnected till you figure out why you "have no power to bike". Which wiring diagram are you using?

Haha. makes sense. Well I've been using a wiring diagram for " GS750 (16-valve) Color Wiring Diagram"
from Bikecliff because I thought it would be easier then looking at these black and white manuals and I figured it would be the same. But just today I think I found a discrepancy between the color diagram and my haynes manual. In the color manual it says that the right coil goes black to blk/yellow, but that should be black to black I believe. so I don't know if there are more differences. I will have more time tomorrow to get back at it. I did re-solder the two wires coming from under the right (run/start) control and the two under the left (turn signal) control. But I was sure to solder the same wires to the same surface. I just don't know what I'm missing....

My bike is mostly an E by the way, with some L parts.
Let's hope member tkent02 doesn't hear about this!

Facing points plate, the set at rear fires the left coil ( #1 and #4 plugs). That diagram is probably real close, but the electronic ignitions probably had different colors, BUT I'm unsure.

Can't tell ya what the PO did with this bike. looks like it was in an accident or something. L forks and seat, but E stamped on the frame. Gonna look at the engine when I get home to see what that says. lol. So bike cliffs has a 79 gs850 diagram that looks right on. I just gotta get the time to get back at it tomorrow.

Ohhh cusssss! I just went back with the multimeter to check the fuses again, and low and behold the only one that looked good visually last time was actually inconspicuously burnt out... Unreal! I will get all new fuses tomorrow and see if that's all it was. Wow rookie mistake! Who knew fuses could deceive the naked eye. Hahaha

Fuses don't like L seats either. They will keep blowing inconspicuously until you lose that seat. Fuses do think the L forks are OK though.
