A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hey everyone.

I've searched a few times, but I must not be narrowing it down far enough because I can't find specific answers.

I've decided to take my Vetter fairing off and I'll be putting on just a standard style headlight. I'm doing this to save some money.

But my bike doesn't have the headlight mounting ears still on the forks, so I need to know what diameter they are so that I can start looking for mounting brackets.

I'm sure one of you guys will be able to give me the answer faster than I can find it by doing another 15 searches!!!

Thanks!!

I understand about taking the Vetter off, but how is that going to save you any money? :-k

.

You can use the fork ears off of a 1979-1981 GS850G, or off another GS1000G. Those are the same part numbers.

Because my Vetter needs:
New windshield
New windshield vents
New Mounting bolts/slide bracket
New foam windshield mounting thingy (that is in fact the technical term...hahaha)
New chrome trim stripping
New stereo
New speakers

Basically, it needs about $300 worth of stuff, conservatively spending. However, if I go with a universal headlight setup and some generic mounting ears, I'm pretty certain I can spend less than $50 and be in business!!

I'm trying to go generic universal brackets for right now, though, so that's why I'm trying to figure out the dimensions.

I understand now. I thought maybe you were looking to remove it for better gas mileage. It's kinda surprising, but many windshields part the air better than a naked bike, so gas mileage actually improves a bit

Before you toss anything, be aware that the mount is rather hard to come by, so if you are not going to use the 'Jammer at all, put the mount in the "For Sale" section so somebody else can use it.
