If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I would really appreciate some input on this as I don't know if I should be chasing it down or if I'm getting what everyone else is getting...
How far can you go on a tank of gas on a 1980 GS850G?
I'm getting about 250 km (combined) and it doesn't seem to be very good fuel economy to me...
That's about 155 miles to a tank of regular grade gas.
Thanks in advance.

That sounds about right (if you have an "L" :D ).

I regularly get around 150 to 160 miles per tank with mine (the 850L). But I don't ride it very hard either.

I ride my 79 GS850 rather hard. 140 miles to reserve. Short rides kill the milage

My S model, 5.5 gallon US gets around 160-175 miles before I fill up.
I usually get around 40-45mpg.

Keeping it between 5K and 6K on the tach

Is that the "sweet spot" for the GS850 motor?
My CB450 gets about 10% better mileage between 4500 and 5200 than nearer 3000.

Thanks to all for the quick, concise replies.
I can stop worrying and start riding. :)

p.s. I get about 70 miles per gallon on the SR250. Super commuter bike and it's as fast as..... okay, so I get passed by buses.

That's the sweet spot for my 1000, not sure about an 850.
Probably pretty close, basically same motor with a bigger bore.

I haven't ridden the 1100E enough yet. :(

Quoted for truth!!

I get about 100 miles to my L tank with the petcock mod and after fixing the diaphragm in the petcock. Just running it around town gets me about 60-80 miles max to the tank depending on how hard I'm racing it.

Working on mounting a larger tank on my bike currently.
Probably from an "E" model or something with a single mount in the rear.

I ride in the same traffic as Detman and get about 85 miles to a tank on my 1980 GS850G. I cant wait to see what it gets if I can ever find 5th gear. Mind you it is not broken, the traffic is.

I've been getting about 90 miles to the tank on my 650L.I was thinking it was useing too much.I guess not.hehe

DEW gets about 80 miles per tank on his 850GL. When is that boy ever going to tune up his carbs..?

My 81 450E gets about 150. That's 45 MPG. not bad.

My new 82 1100E got about 35-40 MPG on the trip back from buying her.

my brother still averaged 48 MPG with the stage 3 kit, pods and 4-1when he had the bike. and he would drive it with leaking carbs. I wonder what his MPG would have been without the leak?I'm currently at 52MPG in stock form. :D

I get about 100 mi. on my 3.25 gal. tank. At least I was getting that when I had a working speedo. I'll clean my carbs when I have another vehicle... looks like you could loan my one.
