I was wondering what it takes to swap a square headlight on a 1981 750E to the round headlight of the 1982?

I know the headlight brackets are different. There's a pair on ebay I might bid on if there's not much technical challenge. Griffin has done this before I know. Would the headlight shell from one of the other GS family work?

I did a couple searches but didn't find much. The auction ends soon so I didn't want to waste time before I asked.

Thanks.

Aye, just another headlamp assembly, and the necessary fork ears. Your "squah" headlamp ones wont work. I have a box full of ones you could use, and I might even have a nice headlamp assembly if you're interested. Then, you need a gauge cluster that isnt as god awful ugly naked as that one for the square headlamps...I gots one of them thar thangs too if you're interested. But, If you REALLY want that thing to look bad ass... Find an 8" freight train headlamp...be prepared to spend some dough tho...at least a 100 or more for a half assed decent one. Pristine Ive seen go for near 300 bucks..

Any pictures of a scoot set up that way?

I'm intrigued.

1981 GS750E with 7" headlight mounted on round headlight ears and shortie turn signals mounted up high. Also notice the '82 center axle forks with anti dive on them.

This is how my 750E looked when I sold it in March.

8" headlight with the stock (square) headlight ears reshaped to hold it. It's tucked in tightly up against the gauges, but it fit ok and could be adjusted well enough. Turn signals are mounted lower on the forks due to the stock ears not having the mounting holes in them. '81 leading axle forks are still on it with the '82 bodywork. Notice how the front fender isn't perfectly parallel to the front tire.

Those pictures look familiar.

I was hoping for a picture of the 8" freight train light. Does it include the big horn to sound at crossings too?

The bottom pic is with the 8" "freight train" light on it.

I see where you said it before. My apologies.

I think with all the things on the 82 that I prefer over the parts on the 80-81, I should have held out for an 82.

If I decide to chase a round headlight, I'll remember where to ask for advice.

Thanks.
