DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Does anybody know for sure whether this will work or not? I know the bikes are really similar but I want to make sure before I purchase!

Also, are the side covers interchangeable between different years of the 850s?

Thanks
Randy

Hi whent to a bike show last week and i was told the gs 1000 stand would fit my gs 850,the only thing is the early models had only one return spring and the later ones had two springs, I was looking for a side panel aswell and found some differences in them so I would check before you buy, hope this is of some help. Adger 1979 gs 850, yamaha xt 500.

The sidecovers off 1979, 1980, and 1981 standard GS850's will interchange.

The sidecovers from 1982 and 1983 GS850's will interchange. The 79, 80, and 81 models are much different than the later 82 and 83 models, especially when it comes to body parts and ignition.

I'm assuming your bike is not an "L" model, which is why I refer to standard models only.

Yes the 80 1000G centerstand will fit on a 81 850G. I did the reverse to get a centerstand for my 80 1000G. Lots of parts are interchangeable between the 1000Gs and the 850Gs as I have found out since for some reason I am always scavenging parts off 850s because 1000Gs are nowhere to be found in my area.

Yup its a G not a GL. Thats great news for me though thanks...soon I'll be able to change the oil without having to sit on my bike for 5 minutes while the oil drains out!!!
