A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

You got a good project base, no experience personally with dent removal. Friend of mine popped his dent out through the petcock hole. Some have used welding studs to pull, dry ice, pixie dust. There should be helpful info in the appearance section on dents.
good luck

Ok so the motor is out, swing arm is off, and rear end is disassembled. Fairly easy this far. The steering stem hearings were rusted(see pic below) and the swing arm looked like it went through hell and back. Here are more progress pictures for anyone that's interested.

That head bearing is nasty. Should be fun getting the races off the stem and out of the headstock. Good luck. It's gonna be worth it when you're done :D

I also have a 81 1100E. I need new intake boots on sides of the carbs. They're all cracked and some are hard on side and softer on the other. Either way, they're not sealing. Where is a good reputable place to get both sets of the intake boots? Also how in the world do I change the boots coming out of the intake box?

You really shouldn't hijack this thread and you'll get much better responses if you post in the Carb/Fuel/Exhaust section

Also, welcome to the forum! After you figure out your boot issues, or better yet before, check out this thread Here

Check out eBay or dimecitycycles.com they are alot of good stuff. You can also do an internet search for what you are looking for and 9 out of 10 times find what you need. As for the air box...get some pods!

Yea I needs some cleaning and I had to order a puller to get them out. Bike is underway.

The GS1100Ls didn't have the alloy swing arm, they came with the tube steel one. The E and the L both had the leading axles on them. But like blowerbike said, it has had L parts scabbed to it. Why would someone do that??

Either way like I said before, I don't care what it was before I am making ut be what I want it to be. Which is just going to be bad ass. I am getting the wheels cleaned up and the rear swing arm. Still waiting on the seat to arrive, it's coming from England so it might take a while.

Panel in work for the right side near the brake booster. I am making side panels for it because I am not to keen on the look of nothing in the middle. Here is the final product after I bent it into place (not a fun task btw)

Panty dropper?

Is that like a pussy magnet?

If it is, I want one. Where do I send the check?

Yes, make it so bad ass the panties just melt off. Just follow the thread and then when it's complete you'll see what I mean. Projected completion date is April 2015.

Electrical panel relocated to behind the battery. It will be welded in place with access from either side.

You've been busy, and made some good progress so far. You might want to look into replacing that stock regulator/rectifier before you weld your relocated electrical panel in there. The replacements are larger, but better and you'll want to plan for their size increase on your panel.

The R/R is a well documented weak point on these bikes. Look into the SH–775 or a Compufire and take a look at the stator, if it's crispy, it'll need replacing too. Usually the rectifier diodes melt and the stator shorts to ground and cooks - if it hasn't given up yet you may be okay just replacing the R/R with a series unit like the two I listed. Also if you haven't already, download the manual from Basscliffs website and also perform the revised stator tests.
