If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Long story short one crank shaft bearing is dead.

I would like to know my options for a replacement. I do not want another bearing to fail after 50 000km.
She is my baby and
I do not mind putting a little extra $$$ to get excellent quality bearings.
Get a resent one that is welded, APE or other rebuilt and welded. balanced.

I was wishing that she would have healed until this winter which is when I was going to totally rebuild her.
So for now I just want great crank shaft asap so I can get riding again.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you

This guy is in Maine so not super far away from you. It's going to cost you quite a bit of $$ though. Someone here will chime in with a proper quote but I suspect somewhere in the $500 range.

it would be a good time to upgrade to an 83 style crank.
you would need all the rotor/SC parts but it would be money well spent and one less weak point to worry about on the 80-82 engines.
IMO find a complete used 83 crank set up and install it.
crank builders are behind this time of the year and the 500.00 price mentioned is on the low side for a complete rebuild plus parts(new main bearings are crazy expensive).

Is a welded crank the only reason for going with a 83 CrankShaft or are they just better built.

If I go with a 83 crank I need to get a complete starter clutch. Not a single part from my current SC can be used?
I`ll have to search this site. I'm sure some one already made the switch.

Ill send an email to GC cranks and see what they have to say.

29mm taper on 83-86 rather than your 25mm taper.
that is why your rotor is not interchangeable.

buy a crank with all the parts on it and install it.
that would be the best way rather than sourcing parts from all over the US and canada.

Can I use the Crank from a 1983 GS750e?
If so what else can I use off of it. There is a used complete bike one for 300$.
