    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

+1 on ride faster. I don't think you'll have any problems as round pipes don't actually "block" flow.
 
Oh yeah - my $0.02 on your exhaust.....

I think the curves are going to be too sharp and might impede the flow. Also, you might find your exhaust fabricator will have trouble getting curves that sharp too.

And finally, the exhaust ports angle out - will you be able to bolt the headers on if they are one piece and angled?

Have a look at CL Honda pipes (CL350, CL360) and you'll see how they swoop around to the left a lot smoother.

Like I said, just my 2c - and feel free to ignore it if you've already covered all this :D

Thanks for the heads up, although I gotta say I'm not real fussed on forking out $100 for something the same age as the one I've got which is busted... but he has two... and a 14 day return policy... hmmm...

I don't think so, but will sleep on it...

And I haven't got my HEI modules yet, surprise surprise.

Mate you're on the money and all the "curves" I've done with the cardboard are really bad in terms of being too tight, so I'm definitely expecting the real thing to be a lot smoother and better for flow.

I was never much good at arts and crafts in pre school, so I'm just showing that now I'm, well, alot older... I'm still not much good at arts and crafts :rolleyes:

I'm really relying on the exhaust guys to clarify for me what's possible and not possible and will or won't impede exhaust gas flow.

We could have a finger painting party after you have prepped your tank and stuff if you like?
 
And on the dodgy arts and crafts theme... seeing as there's still no HEI modules tonight, I finished off my exhaust mock up, although it's lacking a "muffler" as I'm not sure what shape I'd prefer there. A pea shooter would be nice but may make it too long...

Anyways, here's my dodgy cardboard mock up in all it's... well... glory?





And I also did up a template so I can get some tin or something and make up my new electrics tray:



Hopefully a trip to Bunnings is in order on the weekend so I can pick up a few things like a sheet of tin or similar to make the electrics tray, some thicker sort of metal to attempt to make the bracket for the left carb so I can have a 'bar mounted choke lever, and also look for a small fuel tank and tap so I can use that for the first start.

Man that'd be too cool! Get all the South East Qld GSR members together to finger paint my tank... I'm sure that'd be a successful venture... :rolleyes:
 
I'm aiming for a scrambler style, so a high pipe is a must for cosmetic reasons.

I'm taking the heat and leg proximity into account, just not sure yet whether I'll tape it or try to get an effective heat shield, or both.

But you're right, doesn't fit with my look.

I think the best bet would be if they could extend the same size pipe a little and just stick a baffle in the end to keep it under the 94dB limit.
 
Make a heat shield with a bunch of holes in it :)

I don't know if you like this kind of pipe or not but I like. I only picked this ad because it has lots of pictures. But if you shop around, you'll find cheaper priced ones.

The CL450 pipes are definitely nice, and I like the twin pea shooters out the back, however I feel with the full chrome and chrome heat shields it may be a bit much.

I think I'd like to tone the pipe down somewhat so while it'll still be a prime design feature on the bike, it won't be the only point of focus.

Oh, and i do like those reverse megaphones as well, and if I was retaining the low slung stock style pipes, a pair of those would be sweet.
 
Haha if only! I like the fact that it's what the workshop gets... should be a great reference I hope!

Plus it makes me look smarter, but that's easy to do... ;)
 
Well, didn't get the PO box checked yesterday, so checked it this morning, still no HEI modules. Must be the slowest postage on earth... it'll be over a week on Monday since I bought them! :confused:

Anyway, took some time to go looking for some things today and ended up with...

  • A sheet of galvanised steel to make the electrics tray.
  • A thin strip of thicker galvanised steel to make the choke bracket.
  • Some nuts and bolts to mount all the electrics to the new tray.
  • An old whipper snipper fuel tank.
  • Fuel line.
  • Fuel tap.
So I should be right now to get my electrics sorted under the seat area of the frame rails, make a bracket so I can use a handlebar mounted choke lever, and get a temporary fuel tank set up for the first start and future carb balancing etc.
Haven't snapped any pic's yet but will do next time I'm working on it.

I also took some more time to do a garage clean today as the house mate managed to get all the crap that couldn't go out into the garden shed and pile it all up right in front of the only power point in the garage, so for the last couple of months I've had to do acrobatics to turn it on and off. It's now pretty clear finally :dancing:

I also got our old louvered wardrobe doors and some other odd bits of timber etc. suspended from the garage ceiling so there's about a foot of extra room down the right side of the garage now. So much easier to open the car door and get in and out...
 
Ok, so first off, some pic's of what I picked up yesterday.

Galvanised steel for the electrics tray and a thin strip of thicker guage to make the choke bracket:



And whipper snipper tank, fuel line, fuel tap, and some nuts and bolts:



So I figured while waiting for the HEI modules, I'd get a start on the new electrics tray tonight.

It's going under where the front of the seat is just behind the tank, so I measured it all up and drew up what to cut and where, leaving some tabs that I'll curl over the frame rails and fasten probably using hose clamps:



And now I'm managing to frustrate myself just for something different. I have a hacksaw hanging above the work bench, but the noise is too much for this time of night, so I'm stuck with tin snips, which means I need to sort of nibble small bits off to get it to the required shape, meaning it's very slow going.

This is all I got done tonight:



When I get to drilling holes I'm gonna get stuck as well I'd say due to the noise, but I'll deal with that when the time comes.

Hopefully tomorrow is HEI module day... but I ain't holding my breath!
