    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

The mask my boss airbrushed on that perforated vinyl that goes on windows of vehicles.

I actually sold the bike a few years ago when I bought my truck. Didn't like having a bike payment either. Sold the helmet awhile after that too. I will probably do another shield though. Got a lot of people turning around at stop lights to look at it.

Absolutely AWESOME amount of design, fab work and build progress in a VERY short amount of time. I'm jealous of your skill and phys. ability (I'm old/broken):D
I was curious what year the rear sets are from, and what you did for the link mounting on the center stand mounts. Did you use the stock tabs, or did you fab up something STRONG???

I took a test ride yesterday (200 mi.) to see how the motor was gonna handle some hours on the highway, since I've only been able to take it on short rides since I got this pile, and the good news is she ran like a champ!!

I knew I needed to raise the ride height, as the new 4-1 header hits on big bumps. I just came in from looking at how hard it hit, and found the frame is cracked almost completely in half where the lower tubes sweep up, just past the back of the motor!!

The previous owner, who put the '89 GSXR 1100 swingarm and monoshock set up on it, used the mounts for the center stand as the mounting point for the pivot arm that attaches to the shock and the bars that link the swinger to the pivot arm.

The tube that those mounts are on attaches to both lower tubes of the frame, and the forces the suspension place on it caused it to literally tear almost completely off the lower tubes, taking a good portion of the frame tube with it

I feel lucky to be alive, cause I wasn't going easy on the old gal, and thought she felt kinda funny the last 30 mi. or so, but I thought it was just fatigue and my bad back screwing with me. Now I know it wasn't my back:mad:

Any input you can provide would help me in fixing this issue so I can get back on 2 wheels for a while, before I'm too crippled to ride anymore.

I'm not sure on the rear sets. My buddy had them and I think it is an 08 gsxr that he has. As for the center stand mounts that I used. I left them there but added more plates for strength. Will be inspecting all the mounting points regularly just to make sure nothing is cracking or moving.

I got a good look at just how bad the cracks are on my '82 GS1100E's frame today.

Well, I've been wanting to address all the rust and un-tidiness on this adopted-abortion, guess now's my chance, since I gotta tear it down to fix my frame.
Def. keep an eye on the mount points.

WOW! those are some serious cracks.
Unless you are proficient at welding or have a friend that is that will work for beer I would be looking for a replacement frame.

Wow that its scary. Will keep an eye on that area. Maybe add something around that cross bar for added strength. A gusset or two.
 
I'm going to surgically cut/graft a section of an '80 1100 frame into the cracked '82 frame.
A close friend has a Hot Rod shop (first pic) in my town, and is going to provide any/all welding, access to shop space and machine shop (I'm a disabled machinist).
It's going to take me a while to get this accomplished, I will prob. have some help from chef1366, who's offered to ride up from Santa Barbara on occasion to assist.

I just wanted to point out the weakness of the center stand mounts on this type of set-up.

Well its been about a month since any work was done to this old girl but I'm back at er. Had a headache tonight but still managed to get my tail light mounted roughly.

Alright! I was just wondering when we'd see some updates on this build. The light looks nice and bright, and really slick. I'm a fan of integrated tail lights, do they do signals as well?

Athough I do question the use of a battery as a rear hugger.... :rolleyes:
 
haha, I had to see how bright it was. and its pretty bright. No integrated signals. I hear the cops frown on that here. So just tail, brake, and a license plate light underneath. Will put some signals on the license plate bracket.

Very nice. And the cops here do indeed frown on that here. I know this because several years ago I got pulled over and lucked out by getting a warning while riding my Nighthawk that I had mounted integral turn signal lights on the back.
There is actually a law that states how far apart the turn signals have to be from the center of the bike.

I had integrated on my katana but also had the stick out signals too. Try to keep on the right side of the law cuz they do like to pick on bikes.
 
Well, I got the exhaust finished up for now. Finished welding up the end of the mufflers and put some VHT header paint on it all. Would actually love to find a 4-1 header and muffler and do pods and a re jet all at the same time this summer.

Also today I got a new chain, and new pegs to replace the broken one on the shifter side.

For what its worth, I think these bikes look best with the dual pipes, especially when you tilt them up lik e u did. Looking good
