    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1981 GS750 not sure build

Kinda chiming in a little late here although thought I would say your bike is awesome! Great to see what can be done with it the gs750 since I have the same year bike although not nearly the same amount of talent, there I lack. I like the tail cover thinking about doing a similar thing with mine as I have people whom like to ride pillion with me. Since your a autobody guy, had you thought about doing a fiberglass cover for the rear seat instead of metal?

Yeah but I hate the stuff. Cant stand how itchy i get, So I only use it when I have to. (other peoples stuff)

Besides I much prefer shaping metal. Its something I really enjoy.
 
Update for the Holiday.

Ground the welds down on the tail piece. A nice skim of filler to make it perfect and primer time.

Then while waiting for primer to dry, I put the carbs back in. What a pain in the butt. Since I put in the braces for the upper shock mount I had to do a little modifying to the airbox. And its still really tight to get the carbs in. So I think pods will be in the nearer future than I was planning. Anyway they are in with the airbox as well so we'll see how it does with the home made exhaust for now.

Worked on the wiring for a bit today. Got it about as far as I can without needing my undertail where everything mounts. Left it at this stage for the time being.

Took the guages apart and cut the bracket. Since the Tach cables keep breaking I think I'm just running the speedometer. Would like a smaller one but there are other things I'd rather spend my money on so this one will do for now.

I noticed your wheels are now white... Did you paint them? Or are they PC or something else?
 
I was thinking of doing my bike white (eventually). I can't wait to see what it looks like on yours :D
 
Excellent work as always Erki and I will trade you day use of my garage for night use of your paint booth.
BTW: the floor of the booth should be wet!

Yeah I know, That was just primer/surfacer.
 
Cant wait to see this with the paint on!

As far as the tach cable breaking, did you use cable lube between the housing and cable before installing? I went through 4 cables in two months before getting the lube, and now my cable has been going strong for 3000+ miles :cool:

I can completely understand that, the metal work you have done so far is turning out quite amazingly. Cannot wait to see the final product all finished. Then depending on how cold it is there in Edmonton you might have to wait a while to ride it.
 
Yeah a tach is good to have.

I was starting to worry the weather has been so mild this winter. Figured I better start to get this wrapped up in case spring comes.
 
To start the day off today I was pretty excited when my clip ons arrived in the mail. BUT it turned out they sent me two of the same clamps. They come in two pieces per side. The clamp that goes on the fork tube and a 7/8 bar that goes into the clamp as well. The clamp is machined with a slight drop angle for the bar, and being I got two of the same for the left side. It makes the angle go up on the right side. or if I get it to drop it flips the bar on the closer side of the fork tube. Anyway I emailed them and waiting for a reply.

So I sanded and painted my undertail and put the wiring back in roughly.

Bike can sit a bit lower now in the front since I can slide the tubes through a bit.

Hopefully Sanding the rest Thursday and depending on if I have paint by then I may start putting some white on....

That's as funny as I'm sure it is annoying about getting two same side clip-ons.

No need to get new ones... just lean to the left all the time when riding.

193 posts later I check back in on your bobber build... WOW! Amazing job and fab skills! This it one of my favorite build threads. Nice pictures and explanations.
