Hi GS fans,
I'm looking at a new spray job for an 81 GS850G, black with the 3 bands of blue.Iv'e finally located the right decal set.Can anyone confirm the code for the gloss black paint colour for the tank etc.Any feed-back would be greatly appreciated.I can't color match as the bike has already had an average paint job sometime in its life.
Regards Peter, Melbourne Australia.

Hi Peter
Unless you are going back to total original OEM, why do you want to use the paint code for the 850?
There are so many other black paints, that I think, look way better, I am busy doing my 1000G which was originally black with orange and red, I have decided to go for a black used by BMW called Cosmos Black, it is a high gloss black with a fine metal flake in it.

Just troll around Basscliff's site, you will find it, or just do a search on paint codes here.

cheers Flyboy - thanks for the reply

Hi Peter, I had the shop spray my bike with a Suzuki gloss black with a blue metalic flake. I cannot remember the name of the paint or code.
Like FlyBoy said any gloss black paint should be ok, hard to tell if the paint has metalic flakes unless its in the sun. Are these the same decal set you have? My bike was originally silver but the 80's model also came in black, not sure if they were imported to Aus in the black though.

Hi Jed,
Thanks for the reply. The decal kit you used is the 1980 whereas the 1981 had 3 bands of blue (light, medium, dark) where the 1980 has a single lighter blue band.
I have never seen this version of the 81 in Australia, but I have seen an Australian sales brochure with it so I'm tipping there were a few.The bike in its current state has a red/maroon colour but it is not the original factory spray.I think originally the bike was the maroon model, but the blue banded black is the pick, which you might agree on looking at your bike.
Some purists might advise the original maroon for concours sake, but I,m not that pedantic.
Regards Peter.

Peter, here in the States Suzuki used a black which had metallic flakes in it. It was not a straight black.
