A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey,

I just purchased a 1982 GS300L today. It runs great in first gear and second gear. But around the higher gears like 3rd and 4th, it seems like its not getting enough gas through or something because it feels like its not got a lot of power behind it, and its not able to accelerate that great. Also sometimes when i am giving it gas, in the higher gears, nothing will happen, and then suddenly it will jerk forward and some stuff. I think its the carbs that just needa be cleaned because it runs perfect in first and second gear.

Anyone have any other possible solutions? Right now i am just planning on taking out the carbs, and possibly buying new jets, or just cleaning them thoroughly..

Rookie Motorcyclist be nice please

Thanks!!

Welcome to the board.

Kind of a rare bike you have there .. only a few of them here (we have one in our family).. and love it.

An easy check is to switch your fuel valve (petcock) over to prime (PRI) and test again. If there is an improvement in the performance, your trouble may be with the petcock itself or the vacuum line that operates it in run (RUN).

A carb cleaning will only help too.

Post up a pic of your Suzuki for us.

Thank you so much for the input, i will try your suggestions as soon as i can, i will try and post a picture of the bike later today.

Thanks!

One other little pointer. If/when the bike starts to bog out under load, throw a little choke at it and see if it improves. If so you will be playing with those carbs sooner as opposed to later.

Welcome to the GSR...

hey guys, so i just changed the oil. Then i set the petcock to prime (the petcock was kind of stuck, but i managed to loosen it up, which says that the PO hadn't used prime a lot.). and let the bike sit for a minute, switched it back over to on, then started it. Now it runs like a charm in the higher gears. Thank you all for your help, i will be posting pictures of it soon, its a great condition bike.

Thanks
