1982 gs750e project

I got it home to my garage tonight. Picked up from the owners mom and dads house where it has sat for 8 years outside under a porch in the elements (poor bike). So here is what I've got...
82gs750e
62000km (35-40mi)
looks like engine painted black
all parts seem to be there
missing lid cover for air filter under seat
paid $100.00
Stay tuned this should be fun as I have never attempted anything like this in my life.
I already have an all original 750, should I cafe this one?

Well after a lot of sea foam and prehaps a hernia, I got the seized brakes off the front wheel so I can now move the bike to give it a cleaning to be able to start ripping it apart.:dancing:

We should start an 82 750 social group, but your bike has to cost less than 150 to get in , here is mine for $110.

I will be watching, looks we are at the same stage, just pulled the front master off mine, caliper rebuild next, then on to the carbs...

My bike was originally a stock '82 750E, but in running, rideable condition. And I paid more than $150, but it was love at first sight.
That was more than a few years ago............

If you were quite a bit closer to me, I would EASILY offer $500 or more for that bike with a title.

. Sorry but this one is going to be my stock restoration project. I couldn't believe it when it showed up in the parts listings on ebay, only one other guy bid on it! Once I get some things together I will start a thread.

Haha... this is how much of a mechanical rookie I am... I had to go to Crappy Tire to get a socket set and other tools. I think the Sea Foam will be my best purchase to help with those rusty nuts & bolts. Here is a funny pic of the water in the headlight and signal light!
OK off to the garage to start getting the dirt and crap off it. Let the fun (and embarrassment) begin!

Rob came over to my garage yesterday to see if we could get the ugly step child started. We pulled the crank case cover and plugs and it was tight but it did move. I put a couple of drops of oil in each cylinder and then we put a battery in and believe it or not but all the lights except headlight came on. Amazing. Signals all worked too. The throttle linkage was all seized up but after some sea foam spray and a little persuasion it came loose. So the wiring all seamed fine and we tried starting it but no go. Not getting fuel to it, carbs are gonna have to come out and be soaked and cleaned. That said when it was turning over there were no "bad" sounds so that's good. Oh yeah also I had to cut a hole in the exhaust to drain all the water out it, lots of rusty water in the driveway. When We were turning over the engine it sounded like someone was blowing bubbles in the exhaust.

Thanks again to Rob for all his help, looks like it's just beginning.

I've got a can of Kleen-Flow 650 here to dip those carbs in if you'd like like.Get a set of O rings from Mr. Barr and a set of SS allens for the carbs(if you want to go that way)and we can have a "carb party".Have a good impact driver to,just in case we get a stubborn screw.
