I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I am looking at a GS850-L which has a jury rigged choke that leads up to the left handle bar (uses two hose clamps, and the foam rubber from an old grip). It works currently, but I would like to replace that in the future.

Just saw this part on ebay and had two questions:

1. Is this the right part that I am looking for. Says it is but one never knows (still waiting on the shop manuals)

2. How does this get hooked up and how does it work? Looks like there are several wires with a blue wire harness of some sort, and the cable has been cut short?!?!?

Thanks guys

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the forum - I have an '82 GS850GL, and that e-bay control looks right (although not in very good condition).

It's not showing the actual choke cable however, the wiring harness from the switch goes into the back of the headlight & controls the turn signals, headlight dimmer & the horn. The choke lever on the bottom of the switch is screwed into the housing (with an o-ring to keep tension) and has a separate "choke" cable that is attached to the lever, routed down the bar, along the frame under the tank, and down to the choke rail on the carbs.

If all you need is the choke lever assy then it's an easy switch to remove it from the e-bay one & attach it to your current left hand swith assy, assuming all the other electrical stuff works in yours...

In any event, sounds like you will need to get a new choke cable as a minimum - here's link to one of the cheaper places to get parts:

http://www.partshark.com/fiche_select1.asp?cat=Motorcycles&mfg=Suzuki

Also, you can use the suzuki p/n's shown in the various parts fiche to compare against different years & models for part compatibility.

Good luck - we need lots of pics of your bike!!

Mike

As usual an excellent picture. (Not) It looks like the correct LH switch to me. The blue connector goes under the tank into the main harness. There is also a clutch safety switch wire I do not see and you will also need the choke cable unless yours is still usable.

Maybe I should hold off for now and see if I can come up with a different solution. $10 shipping for a small part that I am not sure that I need...I am buying the bike today, so I can't remember off hand what is on there??

I hope a few more (in better shape) will come on the market before too long

Thanks for the help guys
Chris
