If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hi Everyone,

It all started 3 years ago with a coworker telling me about a motorcycle he had when he was young. Apparently they only drove it in the backyard of his dad's house only a few times and after a few months, they put it in the shed where it?s been seating for about 25-30years. He didn?t know anything about the bike.

I have always wanted to build a bobber or caf? racer but didn?t want to spend too much money. I begged him for 2 years to give it to me until he finally decided to let me see it last year. They bike was buried in the shed behind a tractor. There it was a 1982 Suzuki GS850. The tachometer was reading 4miles on it. After a few months on negotiation, I ended up picking up the bike for $200.

I have been working on this on and off for less than 1 year. Now I think it?s about time that I share it with you all and get some advice.

I have been taking pictures of my progress since I started. I post a few to give you an idea.

I can't wait to get moving on this, and look forward to any help you folks may be able to offer

So hopefully I finish this project up in a timely manner.

You can follow everything i have done so far here :

Here are a few pictures of the day I picked it up.

Now guys I need some feedback.

I have to mount the seat and the tank. I would like to raise the tank as shown in the picture below.

I need a tachometer and a new handle bar. Feedback and comments will be appreciated.

These pictures were taken yesterday when I got my new exhaust.

The only thing I have sold from the bike so far is the carburetor that I bought the bike with.

NOW I have for sale:

Stock GS850 Exhaust FULL System (with some rust)
Stock Tank (started prepping for painting)
Stock Side covers in great condition
Stock intake box with filter in great condition.
Stock seat and with back rest.

I will post pictures of each item soon.

I would like this thing to look awesome but with not a lot of money invested

Help me out ! Send me some examples.

Im still open on changing the seat and getting something different.

Im not sure what I want to do with the handle bar yet but Im leaning torwards a clip on set.

I have no idea what I want to do with the tachometer yet. I want to bike to look clean and the stock tach doesn't help.

This is what i have in mind right now !

Please left comments and feedbacks.

Thanks

Why are the pictures so small?

If you look around this site you will find that "bobbing" old UJMs is not particularly popular here.

My personal opinion is that the bike looked a lot better in the barn before you did what ever other dood with a saw does. But YMMV.

Did you see the before photo? If ever a bike deserved to be bobbed, it's this one.

^ Likes rat bikes...

No bike deserves to get bobbing done to it. IMO. Not even a Harley. ;)

I am interested in the grabrail/backrest. Will you sell it seperately from the seat?

Its your bike, bob away bro...

I would either ditch the kerker or tuck it under a little tighter/shorter…just my .02

It's a G and an L.

Chop away.

4 original miles?? Not likely. Those were not the original bars on it when you found it in the barn. No one changes stock bars then puts 4 miles on it from brand new. More like 104,000.
Chop away though, I think you have some talent in what you are doing. Thanks for sharing.:)

Thanks !

Im glad im getting more positive feedbacks on this forum now.

I have no idea that these were not the original bards. But you might be right :) and its 104k instead of 4miles lol

my next step is to mount the seat and the tank. Im starting to question the seat I have though. Some people are suggesting a solid mounted seat but im not sure I like that idea.

I have a thread going on http://www.chopcult.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39662

Feel free to check it out too!

Thanks again !
