A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

1983 E Cleanup

I was giving up hope on the fork tubes. I must have looked at 20 to 25 sets of forks going from absolute junk to nice but priced far more than accordingly. Nearly pulled the plug to call Forking by Frank. Board member Maro had a 1982 E that he was breaking up. The forks were mint and at a decent price! And I think they arrived before I sent the email saying I'd take them. Fastest I've even seen any parcel arrive. Hats off!

Another brick in the wall.

So you found a good set too. You're certainly right about the pouring then. There was often one, sometimes two, other board member kicking over stones for me also. Another funny quirk seemed to be that it was easier to find ES tubes than just plain ole E's. I got a mint ES front end in the garage and I've seen two others that the tubes were good. Better material or sarcastic irony? When in brand X land there was a certain 2 year run of a specific body style and the side covers were more than prone to failure. So much in fact that to see a bike with both covers is a rarity. When I did find a good one it wasn't given away. I think the '82/'83 E fork tubes may be tied or a very close second for "good" parts to find. Lots of pitted examples out there for sure.

I dont have them yet so the jury is still out. If they're worse than what I have the search goes on...

Well don't forget I've got one good one you can have. Well you can have both actually. But shipping the pitted one may not be worth the cost, unless its better than yours?

Jury is in :(.....I got them and they both have major pits. No way to sand them out. Still looking for one slider.....

Bonanza - I've got the one good fork you need. Free. PM about mailing address and *cough*shipping*cough* and its on the way. Just one tube shouldn't be bad - USPS/Canada Post are really good - courier quality and cheaper.

Not a lot going on, but I'll post what moved - yeah, wow.

The left hand rear wheel bearing took quite a while to get here. Anyway with the bearings the wheels went together.

And the front signal lens were beyond hope. Still available in inventory.

And that's it. Sucks, I know.

Yeah but its sure slow. The summer has the outside "Hunny Doo" stuff and its sucking up time. However, the bike isn't going anywhere this year so......

Well after looking at others making such terrific progress, I'm jealous so I offer up all that has happened the last few months. I was away for most of the summer and yardwork took care of any free time.

The forks are back together. Well yahoo - yeah I know, but the longest journey begins with the first step.

The tubes are used, but pit free. Everything from them left is new (wear and seal items) from the lower legs right are the original parts.

And look - they go together.

That's it. However I have most of the engine pieces for her tear down. The great unknown is the condition of the barrels.

You got 'er Pontiac. All the parts are in the house (no more layout storage in garage). And the lighting is much superior to what I have outside. Now wife wants the parts room finished off as kids are migrating home for Christmas break. And no way this thing will be there by then. So it has to move again. But a freezer with fluorescent is nice and bright.

Due to static discharge these photos have been ionized.

Looks good, I just finished putting my forks back together also and hope to get the front end together tomorrow. I'm not going to worry about painting the body work right now.

I had thought the same, but doing the stupid buying sight unseen, I had thought the bike was in better shape than what I got. I had hoped that most was just normal wear - pictures looked much better than in person. And the whole reason was that Goddamn nice looking '82/'83 style. Always loved it from day one. Maybe its cliche - but its sweet. I'm so friggin' upside down on this thing, and a ton to go - but if it can put me back to my first ride on an '82 E in '82 - money well spent! There is a fountain of youth.
