I need to replace the one in place.

Can anyone specifiy a brand and source for one?

thanks

How about a Honda SDG conversion? I sell a kit that converts the Suzuki to a Honda RR and the results are fantastic.

Kit includes new bolts to replace the screws with, Connectors for the stator wires and fusebox if they are damaged. The Honda RR is the solution for the Suzuki RR problems.

Kit is 45.00 delivered to Canada, PM me if interested, I ship the next day.

I don't have one of Duaneage's units (yet) but many others on the board heartily recommend them, so I will recommend him, too. \\:D/

.

Mr. duanageage is OK!

Mr. Mercaholic,

I bought a unit from Mr. duanageage. Works great.

The old Suzuki part is on the left, the "new" Honda part is on the right.

It bolted right on, no problem. I should've asked for a little longer "sense" wire, but everything fit just fine. Not all units have a sense wire. Mr. duaneage will fix you up.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

The best part about this is they bolt into the same holes. The heatsinks are 2-4 times as big, the Honda handles 450 watts which is better than the 250 or so OEM is rated at.

Does it include the rec/reg too or just the wiring and bolts...sorry i missed this bit. I may need one too. Mines fine, but better do it now than later.

Yes, it includes a Rectifier Regulator too. I designed the kit to replace the suzuki RR and retain the stock wiring connections so if your on the road somewhere you won't have something different. The new bullet terminals included with the kit allow the stator wires and the feed to the fuse box to be replaced since they are sometimes damaged. Bolts instead of phillip head screws complete the kit since most people hate having to impact out the screws.

I have a wiring diagram for it as well, the complete kits are 40.00 to the lower 48 states and 45.00 everywhere else (postal rates went way up last year) and I have quite a few in stock.

So far 41 GSR members from Austrailia to Europe and everywhere in between have done the Mod and I've gotten a lot of positive feedback. I can also provide kits with soldered wire ends or different connectors and wire lengths, just ask

Wait...my Rec/rec are two seperate units...This should still work right? just have to wire it accordingly? Dunno if it will bolt up to the side of my bat box, but probably underneath.

Several people have dumped the dreaded separate regulator and rectifer for the Honda Mod. PM me for the paypal account, I can also provide additional instructions for the conversion.

I might be able to provide a few member references that did the separate to Honda swap, I'll check with them to see if they can chime in.

I bought the Honda R/R off Fleabay and stole his wiring diagram.
Works GREAT. No charging problems to date.

Help On Early Model Gs

Help On Early Model Gs

Hey TCK I did the swap on my GS550B, 1977 model. I replaced the regulator and rectifier with the Honda unit supplied by Duanage and bypassed the stator leg going to the headlight switch. If you or anyone else with the early models would like any info email, PM me or do it on this post so others can take advantage.
Cheers
Don

I bought a second 1982 GS1100GL for spare parts, and by accident noticed it had a Honda SDG Reg/Rec. Swapped it immediately with the OEM.

Was good choice.

Go for what Mr. Duanage offers !

What telling about the SDG is how reliable they are. I've personally handled dozens and never found a bad one.

There are a few threads going on the GSR about making a RR from parts but after all that work your going to have a tough time beating the SDG for quality, reliability, installation ease and performance.

It's a shame Suzuki didn't contract with SDG to buld RR's back then. They went with Nippon Denso. I think Kawasaki and Yamaha used SDG but their designs were a little different.
