DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi guys! I really need your advice on this one...After sitting for a year, I decided to bring my GS back to life. Changed the oil (now using 20w50 because it was smoking a little during the last rides), oil filter, spark plugs, and then started it. Blue smoke came out of the exhaust...and never stopped coming out of the exhaust...Thinking it was a jammed piston ring, I used Wynns engine cleaner additive...nothing changed. I ran a compression test which came out as this : 60-150-150-120. I removed the exhaust but didn't see oil deposit in any of the 4 manifold tubes. The 2 bolts holding the manifold to the first cylinder where all oily...and the front of the engine is totally oiled too...but the head gasket seems OK. Do you guys have any idea what could be wrong with the bike and is it worth trying the repair it. Bike has 60000km.
Thanks for your help!

Something else to try

HI Mr. RoChEsTeR,

I suppose it could be a stuck ring. I've read here that Marvel's Mystery Oil in the cylinder could free it up if you let it soak for a couple of days. Good luck.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BasCliff

I'll give it a try, otherwise I think I might spend the summer without a bike...
Found a piston kit with rings and all gaskets on the Internet so I believe if MMO doesn't do the trick I'll order it and see if I can fix it.
Thanks!

Any chance you have checked the valve clearance lately?

A valve that is a bit too tight will certainly lead to lower compression, and if it's really tight, a burned valve.
Either one of these could also lead to excessive oil consumption. :(

ATF will also work pretty well for that if the MMO is not readily available.
