2 into 2 exhaust system for gsx 250 1980

ukjules

Forum Sage
To all.
Does anyone have for sale a gsx250 1980 2 into 2 exhaust system ?
I need one desperately.

Not the awful 2 into 1.
Good price paid !!!!!!

Also what do we do to make these old bikes
Standard when all the parts have gone ?
Not a sole on earth can make me such pipes ?

I would be interested in the 2 into 1 if you find a replacement.

For the time and money it would take to have a second hand exhaust shipped from the US you could surely have a new system made up locally for not much more money.

It's not a hard system to make - two header pipes with a cross pipe and two mufflers.

I have tried for a year to find anyone to make me them ! I agree what you say to build is all that is needed.
but i can find no one on earth to do it !
if anyone knows of anyone we need their name on here. this site does not seem to have any exhaust builders.

I have bought the ones from the US.
The downpipes are what i am after and the under belly chrome plates.
The underbelly i can weld or buy new and the silencers i can get new virtually the same.
But even the rusty ones i have bought are better looking than a 2 into 1.
will post pictures before and after.

i love my old gsx but it is ruined by a 2 into 1. it looks and sounds awful.
2 into 2 now i can seriously cruise on it !!!!

will inform on spare 2 into 1 ! which is on pefect condition.

thanks again for heads up on usa one !!

you say you cant find anybody to do the job. does that mean you cant find any exhaust builders, or you have tried them all and none of them will take on the job?

I bought the USA ones. I had to jump at them as they are complete. My GSX had to have them for Xmas.

Making new ones:
I suppose I have not tried hard enough to inquire. The inquiries I have done have just petered out through total disinterest on
there part even though i would have paid the hundreds they wanted.
The brief was to create the same look as originals. Downpipes , to a modified under pan box to silencers.

I have now found silencers that look like the originals from a company in uk - ?150 ish for the pair new.
(I can provide details)
Also the original underpan is available off ebay.

Downpipes has always been my issue. But now I have them.
BUT
I would be so interested in finding someone who could make them ?
I might buy another bike which need them to be made and out of stainless steel ?

But no I found no one who would do it - no one in uk.

I think I have 2 * 2 into ones. downpipes in good condition on both, silencer good on one , not so good on the other.

A picture of how awful bike was and with the 2 into 1 exhaust. Looked awful, Sounded awful and made it go awfully too.
Ill post one of the one i got from usa soon - the original 2 into 2.
It will need some work.

I will keep looking and ringing and contacting companies for a new stainless steel exhaust as still no one will do it !
(i will inform if i do as we will all need this soon. the lucky fabricator who answers will get free marketing)

I will try these and investigate costs of new.
I think I have tried one only.
But I want to have them made , them to be able to recreate
them for others on similar bikes.

In the meantime I await the second hand one from USA.
Checked internal threads on my bike where they attach and 're rejuvenated
them . So all awaits the exhaust.

Q) can you weld patches onto the chrome silencers ? ( thin metal )
I have never needed to do this.
I have a patch of rust, non visible that will need a patch welding
on the silencer. I could buy pattern ones but not yet.

you state in an earlier post that you have been trying for a year to find someone to make the exhaust. so who exactly have you contacted?

Loads . They say they will but when it comes down to it they won't.
I thus don't think of them again. In fact I have forgotten them forever.

When I have a moment ill send a email to those ones.
As I have a total original coming no stress.

Update:
I got the eBay USA twin exhausts and they are now on.
IMAG1962.jpg
They fit perfectly and the bike is rejuvenated.
It sounds wonderful again and runs far smoother.
It is so worth binning the awful 2-1 exhausts and finding if
you can a 2-2.
(I also have the two chrome bits that go on underpan but not in photo)

I will continue to look out UK based exhaust
makers to future proof the bike. When I find one
I'll inform.

But riding my old bike sounding right , looking right,
and running so smoothly is pure joy.
The difference is off the scale !

Whilst herbs ( my 550) has a rest this is my new
daily machine .

I think someone on here wanted a 2-1 system .
I now have 2 of the awful motad 2-1 systems.
BUT
Being the worst salesman in the world I would beg
anyone from not buying and finding a
2-2 system.

Wemoto sell almost identical silencers.
The underpan is on eBay and are easy to find for now.
The issue is the downpipes.

I wonder if the 2-1 downpipes could be used / modified?
If so the issue could be solved ?

I can't test my old downpipes as the new 2-2 downpipe
and under pan appear fixed. (Poss from later model as my
Old 1980 bike is could all be disassembled)
So when the under pan rusts out ... I will have an issue.

Q) I have been taking some measurements.

the 2-1 downpipes are the same external dia as the 2-2 original downpipes - 35mm approximately.
however they are the wrong angles obviously.

Can a fabricator bend the 2-1 downpipes to the correct look and angles ?
I ask as all the poor wretches with 2-1 systems need for a new system is the downpipes, the rest can be bought

Armours in bournmouth will build you an exhaust system, it's what they do

I'll add them to the list but they do look good.
Think I'll be ok for many years with my gsx exhaust but
dunno if motad still sell them for my GS
and kwak 750r1.

Cleaned up the exhaust with metal polish , rust removed on small
rust holes and treated and some liquid metal on small hole.
Should protect the minor blemishes in non visible places.
