A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Start off by saying thank you to everyone that has helped me with my build. My bike seems to work wonderfully! Now my 2 questions :

1. If I cut the trumpets off my exhaust system will I have to re jet? Or can I run it without just the trumpets.

2. Throughout my rebuild I've taken the seat off and put it back on mabey a thousand times and it seems the seat is no longer latching down. Is there a replacement mechanism to fix this or is there a more creative fix?

Is the little thing that latches in the hole in the seat latch going in and out? Try a bit of oil on the latch/key part and work it around. It works basically just like a door latch does in your house.

Have never noticed an exhaust system with "trumpets", you must be talking about the MUFFLERS.

Yeah, you cut them off, you will have to re-jet.

You will also tend to irritate anyone within several blocks, but that's a topic for another conversation.

And, although most of us are pretty good, we still can't read minds. What bike?

.

Hmm trumpets referring to the ugly "trumpet like" muffler . So yes your saying I will have to re jet. And my bike is a 1984 gs550l not that the seat latch or trumpet like mufflers have any bearing on that. The other peeps had no problem pointing out the exact problem. Thanks guys my seat works good again.

Strait pipes?????
A damnable curse on the human race.

I think a nice flared exhaust is sharp.

You should affix a nice 4-1 pipe if you are going to do mods.
Someone on ebay would buy your pipes. The bike looks very clean form the pics you posted.

Every bike is a bit different CID so it is pertinent to ask what bike. Or, save us and yourself the trouble and put it in your signature block.

My one question is why remove the mufflers? If you do, please tell me where you live so I don't get within 50 miles of your bike (I'm already hard of hearing at times).

I am thinking thats a Brit name for megaphones.
Could be, but what was your clue there might be a Brit involved?

And my bike is a 1984 gs550l not that the seat latch or trumpet like mufflers have any bearing on that.
On the contrary, different bikes respond differently to removal of the mufflers. We might have even been able to suggest what jets to use, although some will not do anything to encourage the additional noise. And, not all seat latches are the same. What works for mine might not work for yours, so just give us a clue and we don't have to ask as many questions when you ask questions.

The other peeps had no problem pointing out the exact problem. Thanks guys my seat works good again.
They got lucky and happened to guess the type of seat latch that you have. As I said, though, there are several.

By the way, thanks for the addition of the signature.

i beleive the two teeth are worn to the point of not latching the seat. is there a replacement. or would i need a new key?
