DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Postings to the For Sale and Wanted sections will be deleted 90 days after the initial posting date if there has been no activity to the thread in the last 7 days. This is done to eliminate dead posts from the forum.

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Not our usual kind of bike but it is Japanese!

2nd or 3rd owner of this is a good friends mother. She used to come over from the UK & ride it about once or twice a year for a week or so & then it would go back in the garage full of fuel with stabil in it & mostly sit (unless I took it out for a spin).

It's been a good bike for reliability, she has a Honda Shadow 650 in the UK and rates both highly (she's vertically challenged so likes the low seat on these).

It's a California bike (we picked it up for her in Pasadena years ago).

It's in very good shape, started very easily (despite not being ridden for at least a couple of years, it's on no op but has been run up to temp & down the st a few times in the intervening years). Interesting setup, it's fuel injected but there is a petcock as the pump is gravity fed from the tank.

It needs some new rubber, a new turn signal & some detailing. Agewise it will need a service, it's not many miles since it was last done from memort. $2k for someone on here or make an offer & I'll talk to her. Happy to help with arrangements for pickup, shipping etc.

I could probably be persuaded to help fit new rubber, etc if someone wanted to pick it up and ride it any distance.

FWIW, that bike would do very well rented out on TwistedRoad.com if someone in CA wanted to start or add to a side hustle.

Lots of people want "short person" motorcycles, and luggage is a significant bonus as well. It's low maintenance (once you take care of the old bike stuff), quiet, fast enough to keep up, yet slow enough to mostly stay out of trouble, looks good (with a wash) but not flashy, and reliable.

Quite a few folks renting out bikes on TwistedRoad have a small fleet. I personally prefer renting from folks like this because they're a lot less personally "attached" to the bikes, so they tend to be less "blind" to the bike's faults and maintain them better. Plus they are more willing to solve problems and often have options if something goes wrong.

GLWS, Dan!

Have you tried it from the renting out PoV Brian? I’ve loosely talked about doing it with a friend before (he lives in Half Moon Bay so potentially we could offer one way Los Angeles to San Francisco which I guess would be fairly unique).

I haven't tried renting out bikes myself; I don't have the room, frankly, what with my own three bikes and assorted parts and tools in a two car garage.

However, I have done a fair bit of wrenching for a friend in Chicago who did quite well renting out a "spare" bike. His was a late 2000s Suzuki Boulevard S50 cruiser (formerly known as the Intruder) with a low seat height and that looked pretty good. He also didn't really care for cruisers and so wasn't emotionally invested in it at all; he bought it as a potential side hustle or spare bike.

Anyway, he bought it cheap, I fixed it up, bulletproofed the charging system as one must with Suzukis old and new (and new tires, battery, etc.), and during decent weather months it did quite well with riders who wanted something easy to ride but with plenty of power for highways, with low to mid pricing. A few years later, a customer totaled the bike (the customer was OK) and the insurance paid up with no fuss. When I saw that Kawasaki, I immediately thought it could occupy an identical rental niche.

I also had a long conversation with a retired gent in New Mexico when I rented a bike from him. He has a small fleet he rents out on TwistedRoad.com and Rider Share (coordinating both is a pain, and led to some issues when I booked a bike that had just rented on Rider Share; I ended up on one of his other bikes), and overall he was happy with the side hustle.

He did all his own maintenance, and generally found that people treated the bikes pretty respectfully. Owners also have a chance to review renters and make sure they're comfortable with their skill and experience level. He had, IIRC, two Honda Africa twins and two BMW GS models, all adventure bikes with luggage and plenty of drop protection, so he didn't have to be very concerned about minor damage. He told me "don't call me unless you total it."

You'll also find several dealers on the rental platforms that have ever-changing fleets of used bikes they rent out.
