A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Red lining it once in a while won't hurt anything.

Lugging it around will.

Your choice.

Doesn't the 650L airbox lid have a snorkel built in like the 550?

Won't run much at all without a path for air to get in.

It's funny because the 650e runs a 97.5 main, the rest of the 650's run a 110 main.

The E also runs the same air box as the 550.

Is the 550 box that restrictive?

It'll be great when they get sucked into the head & catch fire... :(

Don't think it hasn't happened before.....

I would at least put a steel mesh behind them.

No, I think it's less restrictive. The E had more power than the G. They changed some other things in the carbs too. Tuning, like anything having to do with airflow, is strange science.

(Sigh) The Starter jet on the 650G is a #45. The 650E - #47.5.

The pilot air jet on the 650G is a #160. The 650E - #175.

The combustion chamber for the E is shaped differently than the one on the 650G.

This mod is a no go unless you buy a bike for a kid and want to knock the power down. Not enough surface area, it chokes the motor at high RPMs.

Who would do that when you can just by a bike of an appropriate size for a kid?

A motocrosser is no good for a beginner? Who'd a thunk it?

You're saying a 500 pound 650 is going to be better?

Right.

I had a GS1000 when I was 14. "It doesn't run, you want it you can have it" So it followed me home. Cleaned the carbs, it ran. Then again I was 6' tall and about 200 LBS. Right size, yes. Right size, no.

I parked it next to my XL70 and CB 350.

Daughter is getting her license in a few months...... I'd feel much better with her on a restricted 650 than a full on 650.

If it was my daughter she's be an expert rider before she ever sat on a 250.

Oh wait, my daughter was an expert rider before she ever sat on a 250. Guess what? She still is.

Are you talking about size or power, because they're different?

The bike fits, does the power? Is the power delivery suitable? I hate 2 strokes.

These "filters" make the bike suitable for a learning street rider, they kill the power.

Hence, why I said, they'd be good for a kid (16-18) to knock the power down, meaning they suck for much else. I think you missed the sarcasm.

My experiment = fail

An expert rider (on the dirt) is a rookie on the street, you don't put your feet down in a turn and you don't steer with the throttle. #sarcasm

Every experiment that provides you with useful data is a successful experiment.
