I was wondering I found find a bike 550 L with coils on it that say 3ohm and are green. Should I consider these to be stock or dynas? I can get them but see no need to if they are just stock or wont fit on my 650. Thanks for any info.

If the plug wires can be removed, they should be Dynas. The Dyna coils also have their name on the sides (DYNA COIL), at least on one side.

If your current ignition system is working fine on your 650, I'd leave it be. The 3 ohm coils would make ignitor work harder compared to the stock 4 ohm coils.

They will work fine.. GS ign call for 3 ohms Points system call for 5 ohms

Forwarded from Eric.....

Tell this guy that works at a scrap yard, that the green coils are an IMPROVEMENT over the stock 20,000 volt coils. They are 30,000 volt coils.

LOL. All you have to do is compare the stock vs. aftermarket coils (be it Dyna or Accel). The aftermarket coils are larger in diameter, which means they have more windings, which increases the output voltage. Coils are nothing more than a voltage amplifiers.

The green coils are 30,000 volts compared to the stock coils 20,000 volts, a big improvement.

If you don't want them,,,,I will take them.....

I just blew a coil.....LOL

All 5 sets of suzuki coils that I have checked (1980 and later) measure 4 to 4.2 ohms primary. Less ohms will cause more current to flow thru ignitor- yeah, you get bigger spark but do you need it and will ignitor like it?

Actually, the spec was "in the neighborhood of", and the standard for aftermarket replacements is 3 Ohms for electronic ignitions and 5 Ohms for points ignitions. It will be fine.

They are and I got them off. I havent checked them yet. They said 98 on the date stamp. I have to ask the plug wires didnt look very good, what will fit on it to try them out. Car or truck wires? Thanks for great info. I have to get front end off the 79 1000 next. I hope it will fit on mine.

You can use automotive wires if you use automotive caps. But then you would need to use the screw on pieces on the plugs.
Personally, for about the same price I would get a set of Dyna wires from Z1.

I was thinking to test them I would get 4 nice wires off a car at work if they are working good then buying the correct wires.

I tested the coils but the plugs wont work that came off the car. I was wondering if the wires on the stock coils would work if I replaced the coil ends? If they will work what ends would work best? I am asking because the wires and the plug ends are new. I'm guessing for less than 5.00 I can replace the coil ends and be on my way. I seen some on oreily's web site for about 50 to 60 cents a piece. Thanks for the help so far and Thanks for any help to come.

I got them installed and they work great. Bike seems to run better. I clipped off the ends of the old wires and crimped new caps on them. The wires were new. I had to grind down the mounting brackets on mine to install the coils. I also used shrink wrap to protect the wires from hitting the frame. It worked out really well but would have been better if I could have used the second holes.

I will keep an eye out in case someone scraps a bike with one on it. :D
