A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

4 1/2 year quest may be ending tomorrow

OK...so I shot the first coat of silver base at 71* at about 9:30 AM. Looks awesome if I can just not bump it and jack it all up!!!

Humidity is high so I am waiting about 1 1/2 hrs between coats. Got the 2 silver base coats down without any issues. Seat trim is also ready for mid coat. But since the tank is the thing thats the biggest, the curviest, and the hardest to paint I will keep my fingers crosssed.

Red mid coat is on and so far so good. I am not gonna move it to take any pics till tomorrow morning. Walk away and leave it alone is the best medicine right now. Good 12 hrs or so to cure will do it good. Will do some clear tomorrow. 2/3 of the way there.

It's my understanding that no more than 15 minutes flash time is desirable. When the previous coat is still slightly wet, it creates a chemical rather than mechanical bond. If you're not going to clear immediately you'll need to sand the base coat first.
Ignore me if you already know this.

Tech sheets for the paint I am using says it stays open for 24 hrs.

Directions state that if doing a two tone or clear I must do it WITHIN 24 hrs. If OVER 24 hrs it will need sanded for any further applications.

So by about 9 AM tomorrow it will only be at arouind 15 hrs or so.

Now, if I had another 3 or 4 hrs of daylight left I could do it today but its not gonna happen.

I've run into paint problems in the past that I still don't understand.
Looks like you've got it this time.:)

Well I guess all I can do is shoot the clear and see what it looks like after it has gassed out a few hrs. If I dont like it I can always take Larrys suggestion and see if the paint shop can make a single stage color that close to the Candy Wineberry with the metal flake effect like the 2 stage does.

I am such a perfectionist that its gonna eat my brain worrying about how it looks. I just want it not to be tiger striped and schitty looking overall. If that happens just MAYBE I can let it go.

Here you go Dale...I went against every instinct and nervously got parts into the direct sunlight. Can see the power lines above the road in the tail sections reflection. I will say this..its gonna be the coldest day in He!! before I attempt a candy paint scheme again!!

Whats the old saying...sometimes its better to be lucky than be well skilled!!!! I cant say it was the wisest jumping in point for me.

Just think of all the people you've inspired to do their own paint work... Or, at the very minimum try their hand at it and then go to seek professional help.

How is the colour match between sessions?

As fickle as a "Candy" color is i almost need serious help..I must have been nuts to go there. few specks of dust settled down but they will be gone with the final polishing...in a few weeks. I am gonna be well sure the paint and clear are gassed off and I may wait even longer than 2 weeks.

You made it look easy.

Wait until Larry sees it. He'll be impressed.

So "easy" I wanted to punch MYSELF in the face..and thats no exageration as to how frustrated i was getting.

I know, you told me that when it started tiger stripping on you. It's all in the past now. Although I did get my share of dirty looks when I was texting you from the wedding.

It's done... that's what matters.

I second Jeep. That's a very nice colour choice.
