    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

4:1 Identification & Can they be saved?

Hey all,

So here's the beatup 4:1 that is on the new bike, I think it may be a Mac, but I am not sure and am hoping someone here can identify it.
The PO beat the bottom of it up, and while I don't want to buy a new exhaust this season (~300 not in the budget), I do want to clean her up some.
The pics below are after sitting in Jasco Paint stripper for an hour or so, and it didn't really do anything (at the same time it stripped my tank well), so this may be a powder coat?
I am going to try and bang out the dents on the bottom from the inside ith a long heavy rod, as I don't imagine it is cost effective cutting and getting someone to weld a new tube in place (I may be wrong).
Does anyone think the uneven restriction will have a significant impact on performance (vs. correct running, not max output)?
It's dented about 5/16" at the worst.

Also, does the Mac exhaust, if that's what this is, take some kind of canister?
This is a tapped hole on the end that threads through both the main horn into the end plate, which seems to imply that it once secured in the actually muffle, which is now apparently held in by the beating the end of the horn has taken. Can someone confirm before I try to remove this muffle? Thanks again all!:D
 
MOST 4into1s have a removeable baffle that is in fact held in place just as you say. Personally, i cant identify it, but it doesnt look salvageable to me anyway. If it were my bike, id be on the look out for a new VH pipe on fleabay. I see them on there all the time for 240 or so. Cant beat the Vance and Hines for the money.
 
It's a MAC. I have one on my bike, and flat out hate it. Dont waste your time.

Get something else.
 
i have had 2 V&H's now and loved both.....

havent heard many good things about the MAC's
 
I am going to be buying a new pipe to replace my original rusty pipe and was leaning towards Mac because I read that you can retain you center stand with good filter access etc. I just read that the V&H is the same except with better build quality. I dont want to remove my center stand. Can anyone confirm that?

My cafe didnt require removal of the centerstand, and ive seen quite a few GSs with different 4into1s that also kept the centerstand. The VH generally has a good upsweep to it and comes out clear around the frame where the centerstand is. I dont see why you'd have to remove it on the GS models. I know that some other bikes you do, as a bunch of the guys on the DTT board with Hondas complain about having to.

I'm very torn because the lines of the bike would be much better as you look through it if the centerstand was gone after my V&H is installed, but not having a centerstand is a PIA for sure.

I pulled my centerstand OFF my cafe, for weight savings and looks, but its CAKE to just stick it back on there when i need it. I dont even put the spring on it, simply because when i need it, its only for a short time. Has worked quite well.

Good idea. I think I'll do the same. Just a couple bolts right to pop it back on. Hey was that cam cap useable for you? It was rougher than I remembered.

Its a little bubbled, but I will run it on my buffer and see what happens. If'n that dont clean it up nice enough for the G, i will just use it on the cafe, as its not my PRETTY bike...lol I appreciate you sending it to me tho man! Thanks much!
