    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

4 washers with O rings on them ?

In my gasket kit there is 4 washers with Orings attatched to them. Does anyone know what they are for?Im replacing the cylinder & head & dont want to miss something :oops:

Those four little rings go on top of the head gasket at the four corner studs. These help to make sure that oil doesn't leak out through the head gasket from those oil channels.

I found that out the hard way.

assembly order for those parts is: Cylinder block -> Head gasket -> o-ring washers -> Cylinder head
 
At least you didn't open your gasket set and find 3 of those Vinny :|

the washers are going between the head gasket & the head?????Doesnt look right . Or do they go on top of the head between the nut & the head?Also .its a 3 piece metal gasket & the washers that came with it are copper & tubular,with a seem on them .The set is Athena if it helps :?

if its a 16 valve motor they also use sealing washers on four of the camshaft cover bolts do the look like a sealing washer ? :?:

I have an 8 valve, it also had the 4 seals in the gasket set.
When I slid them down the studs and they didn't look right, under the head gasket or above it, So i left them out and torqued the head down to 32lbs. No leaks.

Damn, you have a much higher torque rating for your head bolts than mine. My head bolts call for 19lbs for the corner studs with the acorn nuts. Leaked like a stuck pig without the o-ring washers.

While it might not look quite right with the seals sitting on top of the head gasket, when you put the head on and torque it down, they will compress to fill the gap around the stud and prevent oil from leaking out.

I think you've just been lucky so far.
 
Mine call for 27lbs, 1981 GS1000G,
If it leaks, I'll just put the o rings in.
