A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Too much thees are aftermarket options for cheap and that are better than stock

Someone will give the names in a min or two.

I'd be happy with a good modern alternative as long as it's got similar connectors, I really don't like cutting and splicing wires, any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

I just can't get my head round how they could justify 400$ for a rectifier, that's almost what I paid for my bike :)

There is nothing sacred about the harness unless you like the smell of burning insulation. The charging system needs to be changed some to improve performance. If this is a oem restoration, there might be a slightly different approach but not much.

In that event, buy a brand new SH775 and the connector set, and with the money you've saved from that $400, hire someone to do the soldering for you.

The stock setup will otherwise be ready and waiting for an opportunity to ruin your day.

Electrex and Rick's both made good aftermarket units in times past, are they still good? I bought a Rick's R/R for the 550 years ago, it seemed to work fine and was easy to install.

Sell the GS and get a Toyota.

Sure they are still good, but they are torturing your stator -making it produce more juice (and heat) than your bike needs. Now that you can get a series R/R (about $70), consider upgrading and enjoy happy motoring.

That doesn't sound so 'good' to me, certainly not 'good' for your stator. The last time I had a need to bother with electrical issues those were the go-to units around here. Apparently there's something better out there now. It's good to know not to recommend those units now.

I don't have the bike with the aftermarket R/R anymore.

Picked up a 79 triumph bonneville 3 phase regulator/rectifier for 60 euros today :)

Should be perfect for the job ;)

Well, that depends on how you like your stator cooked!

This thing has a heat sink about 3 times the size of the one that was on there. What i do need to do is bypass the problem with the 3rd phase coming into action when the lights are switched on.

Yep....

Yep....

Searching the number SH775 yields a bevy of interesting posts. Time to forget what I thunk I thot I knew about charging systems.

This regualator i'm going to use for those interested is a sparx spx002.

Yes, because averyone knows how good old English electrical systems were.

Lucas, Prince of Darkness.

60 Euros? That's way more than the Shendigan Series regulator.

Apparently it is true about a sucker being born every day.
