A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Don't wanna hijack thread but I have a 78 GS750 that I just recently bought,
It has a new battery, a new Mosfet R/R but the original Stator. I'm still waiting for my Dyna S in the mail,
Do the original stators have a shelf life? I'm in the middle of getting the bike up and going and am wondering if I should replace the original Stator just so I know that everything has been covered for the charging system, including all the bullet connections.
Think of it this way...
The original stator is 36 years old. That's 36 years of being exposed to acids, corrosives, heat, oil, vibration, mechanical shock, and electrical misadventure. That's a lot to ask of the varnish/insulation of the 1970s.
Which is why I'll be replacing mine with new ones, made with 21st century varnish/insulation. I'll get what I can out of the old ones, but I suspect their end will come sooner rather than later, and if left on the shelf, they'll just deteriorate eventually.

Low and behold battery that I have WAS new as I thought from Advanced Auto when I bought in March. Took it in to them today and they replaced it for free because it was a 3 year old battery!!!!! SO.... .now I have a perfect and brand new battery. Would that have been the issue to begin with?

I wouldn't count on it being the issue...but it probably wasn't helping.

Test, test, test...

Donot use a MOSFET R/R, see GS Stator in my signature

Yes,but let's hope that the "21st century varnish insulation" was not supplied by the low bidder from you know where! Quality magnet wire ain't cheap!

I can boil down some bones and make my own varnish. Only way to trust it nowadays.

That's a lot of reading! The Mosfet R/R was already installed before I bought the bike. I've read most of the stator pages but in a nutshell, what's the best stator for a 78 GS 750?

They will all work just as well with that MOSFET R/R. :(

That is the correct one. So maybe it is only an issue with Tom; he says it sends him to a Tkent thread.
Beats me! signed in, that link takes me to last post in a temp probe thread,BUT if I then scroll down to start of that thread, I get to your right link.I must have selected some odd date sorting method.

19MAY UPDATE***

Well, wasn't the battery. Had a buddy come over, rewire everything correctly with the new battery.

Made it 90% down to myrtle beach (aprox 1 hr/60 miles) and it died along the road.

SOOO.... looks like I'll be replacing stator and rectifier and wiring. Might as well overhaul it all for mainly peace of mind and knowing that I have reliable parts in place.

That being said.. anyone wanna send me a link directly to which rectifier and stator will match up with minimal wire modifying? I'm looking around $150

The SH-775 series R/R and the Triumph Wiring harness fall well below your price. 2011 R11HR76AG/AR Ranger 6X6 800 EFI 35A 3PH Series Regulator 105C 4012941 (SH-775) Triumph part number T2500676 for SH-775. The Polaris part number 4012941 should be all you need to look up the SH-775.
