77 550 vs 750 fork spring lengths

Pardon me for being a little frustrated.

Racetech sent me the wrong emulators and springs because they think a 77 GS750B has 37mm forks.

I explained (thanks to this site) that the 77 GS750L has 37mm forks but the 750B has 35mm forks.

So they want to send me the emulator and spring for a 77 GS550 which also has 35mm forks.

My problem with that is I understand the 550 forks are shorter than the 750 so I'm a little concerned.

Does anybody know what the fork spring length is for the 550? The Racetech guy says they are probably the same...but I'm not confident he really knows.

The 750 has 2 springs:
Short spring: 166mm
Long spring: 370mm
Total spring length: 536mm
(this info from the Clymer manual)

Anybody have similar info for the GS550?

The 550 are about 1-1 1/2 inches shorter May be a different length spacer is required

I found the answer to my spring length question from the Parts Catalog on BassCliff's sight. What a usefull document.

So the springs in the 550 are 20.5mm shorter than in the 750. But I think I can use Racetech's 550 springs and just use longer spacers.

The emulator is about 20mm tall so that will provide the extra height you need....

Why not get the 35mm emulators from Mikes XS? $54 instead of $160 & function is the same!

Thanks Dan. So glad you joined this discussion. I know you have some experience in this area.

Three reasons I went with Racetech:
1. I didn't know about Mikes. I only found your thread about them after I ordered the Racetech kit.
2. As a Lee Parks instructor I get a healthy discount from Racetech.
3. Lee and Paul Thede (Owner-Racetech) go way back so I felt like I was keeping the money in the family.
