    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

77 GS750 Rotor and Stator Replacement

Hi fellas. I had a really weird thing happen last week. There I am riding through Adirondack State Park at near-warp speed when I decide to pull in to a gas station and fill up. As soon as I stop the bike, she quits. The motor will try to turn over, but there is something mechanical knocking around under the stator cover. One trailer ride home later, I remove the cover and find that one of the rotor magnets has become dislodged and is now loose between the rotor and stator. Of course, there isn't enough clearance between them so the magnet chewed some space out of the rotor so it would fit. I have never heard of anything like this happening.:?

Anyway, here's my question. I'm 99% sure I have Nippondenso parts (both rotor and stator) now. I'll have to go out in the garage in the morning and count the coils to be sure. There's a guy in Singapore that has a set of NOS Kokusan parts for me. I've checked the part numbers (he sent me pictures of the GSP labels) and they are the new stock numbers to replace the original Kokusan OEM parts. What I need to know is can I safely replace stock ND parts with the Kokus? I have read other posts and I know I cannot mix the two. Also, do I need to replace anything else (regulator, rectifier, etc.)?

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! :-D
 
ND & KOS refer to the type of ign points . Not sure on the stator, it should be twelve pole. Last time I ordered from Singapore I NEVER got them

I've checked the part numbers from 3 sources (BikeBandit, Motogrid and Alpha Sports). They all show the same illustrated parts catalog page for the generator and they all list seperate part numbers for a Kokusan and Nippondenso rotor and stator set. Also, in a thread posted here last May titled Stator Testing Question - '77 GS750, TONY.STEWART found out what happens if you put a Koku stator against an ND rotor.

I would very much like to know from whom you ordered your parts in Singapore...just in case it may be the same seller. Good info to have before I pay him. Do you remember who it was?
