  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Crazy man! I'm having a partial meniscoptomy next thursday. They have to chop out a torn piece of my meniscus. Ripped it up rock climbing.

I had the other knee done a couple of years ago and I was only down for a couple of weeks.

Been there and done that. It is a total knee replacement for me.

It does amaze me how fast I recover from this stuff.

When I got the first bionic knee (as my wife calls it) I wanted to get them both done at the same time but for obvious reasons they don't do that.

My legs these days are full of scars but they are more functional than before.

boonton... that procedure is not nearly as bad as it seems.

Do let it heal though.

Forget the knees man, one project at a time get the bike done then worry bout the knees!:D

Seriously though, best of luck on a quick recovery so that you can get the bike done and enjoy riding it without the knees bothering you.

You're not kidding Erki. The sidewalk in the back had snow up to my knees.
I did my driveway, back and front sidewalks and the sidewalk in front of my house and my neighbor (he's a good guy). It took about 30 mins total.
Oh ya, I also cleared a path from the side door of the house to the woodshed on the opposite side of the house.
I LOVE my snow blower.

Hard to believe that 3 days ago there were motor cycles on the streets.

Not really sure Johnny. I can look and see if they have any markings on them.
If you were closer you could have them. I don't plan on using them.

Well Bruce, I just finished reading your whole thread which I found from a search for what to use for a carb dip (great stuff here!). I never even considered Pine Sol, but am not sure... I was really set on berrymans but that seems harder to find in Canada.

I just went downstairs to check my bike ('78 GS550C w/ read drum brake) and it also has the bracket for a rear master cylinder on the right hand side, never seems to have been used.

I admire the quality of work you're doing... one day when I get my own place I'm going to do a complete rebuild and hopefully she'll look half as good as yours will certainly be!

It's a dark and stormy night down here in OR, so I'm reading all the stuff others are doing

You've done great work so far, but I hate to tell you that you've swapped the #2 and #3 carbs when you reassembled. Gonna cause you big headaches trying to tune them like that.

And, did I miss the part where you cleaned the insides of the carbs? Blasphemy around here if you didn't, plus tuning with clogged screws and old O rings will be a bitch

Funny you should mention that Big T. I noticed that the other day while looking at carb builds here. Glad I noticed it before I put them back on the bike.

I did point out somewhere that I cleaned them in the pine-sol before stripping them completely down to avoid getting the massive amount of crap that was on the bottom bowls on the inside.

Trust me, these carbs are as clean on the inside as the outside.
I wanted to make sure to do it right the first time but to be honest... aside from having to put them back on the bike it was pretty easy and not a chore I would fear to do again.

I haven't gone out to the garage tonight but I am certain there is very little or any pitting.

I am pretty much working on the exact same bike, wish I had read through this thread before I started mine would of saved me a few days. The pine sol bath and motor cart alone would of saved me tons of time.

My bike is an EC I have the mag wheels and Front and rear disc brake, other then that looking forward to see what you do with her.

Well, the demands of building a new house and garage is going to seriously disrupt my bike build but I will try to do as much as I can to the bike.
I want to get the frame painted before the move to the rental house while I still have my compressor.

I had hoped to be finished by now but you know how that goes.

I may be missing here for weeks at a time but I will update as I progress.

BTW, anyone wanna help me pack a house full of stuff that we have lived in for decades?

Sorry to hear about the timing of the move. Look forward to picking back up where you leave off. Hope the move goes smoothly and that you are on to bigger and better things.
 
Build the shop first. Then just pack all your stuff in there and build the house. :)
 
WOW. It's been so long since I added to this thread that I have dropped down to the 3rd page.

Finally got a little garage time in between moving stuff and got something going again on the bike.

I had some free time today and ended up at Princess Auto.
I pretty much had to get the seat done before I could paint the frame as I need to know where to cut the last bit off.

I bought some mat, resin and foam.

The idea is that I will use the foam to make a plug to make a mold off of.

Not done but getting there. (I had to quit here because the glue wasn't dry yet and the pieces were moving.)

Hopefully I can get some time tomorrow to finish shaping the plug and get some bondo on it.

I plan on making it look like the back half of the gas tank.
