    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

79 gs 750L carb problem

Just got a new to me gs 750 the guy before me messed with the carbs. I just put in new jets and pilots but all I can find for settings is that it was set at the factory and don't mess with it. Can someone give me a starting point to set these. I not sure what they are called but one is in the bowl ( pilot jet)and the other is on the top side at a angle ( air jet ? ) Thanks PS vm26ss are carb type
 
Hope you did more to clean the carbs than just replace a couple of jets. cycleorings.com sells kits and there is a tutorial for the rebuild in the Garage section - link though the GSR homepage. Also, don't forget to replace the intake boot O-rings if your bike has them.

Screw on the bottom is the pilot FUEL jet - good starting point is 3/4 turn from lightly seated. Screw on the side is the pilot AIR jet - 1.5 turns is a good start. Tweak as necessary and don't forget to do a vacuum sync.

I did what I could, cleaned and adjusted floats and bought a kit off ebay with everything but the long needle inside the slide. thanks for the help Im sure I will be asking for more in the future.

Hi Mr. olegrumpyman,

I'm glad you've found us. I encourage you NOT to take shortcuts when it comes to carb cleaning, electrical maintenance, valve adjustments, etc. Check the mega-welcome, particularly the "Top 10 Common Issues", the carb rebuild series (there is a VM carb series in the Garage Section of the GSR homepage and on my website), and the Stator Papers, to put your bike back into a condition where you can do more extensive troubleshooting if necessary. Don't forget about your chain and sprockets either. If you are not proactive with these issues, you will become frustrated from continually chasing down all the related problems. Ask me how I know. ;)

There is a "sticky" thread at the top of this Tech section which contains most of the specs for the GS carburetors. The search function can find instant answers for you. Now, let me roll out the welcome mat...
