'79 gs750 - what color to powdercoat the rims?

My GS is due for new tires, and while the tires are off the rims I'd like to have the rims powdercoated. A pic of my bike is below. The rims look okay in the pic, but it's just because they were still wet from washing the bike. The black accents are really just a dirty grey, and the aluminum bits are all corroded from being ridden in the rain, I guess.

So, my thoughts were:
1. Silver
2. A dark gold/bronze color, to match the front brake hats
3. media blasted with clear powdercoat
4. White

White sounds odd, but I've seen a few bikes pull it off. What do you think? the fender is going to be painted black as the chrome is rusting and looks like crap, so that would help with the white rims. I think the contrast might look decent...

Just so you know, when the bikes left the factory, the "black accents" were not black, they were a dark (dirty) gray.

Gotcha; your (SVSooke) starting point was pretty close to mine, minus the red overspray. Did you spray or hand-paint yours, or did you have them powdercoated? The price of powdercoat skyrockets to do something like that, which I can't really afford at the moment.

Sprayed them with Dupli-Color High Performance wheel coating.

I masked them off after polishing the AU.

I did this as well. I used gloss black though. I thought paint would be easier to fix than powder coat.

The only thing to keep in mind if you powder coat, is you have to remove the bearings. The oven will be too hot for them otherwise. I painted my wheels, too, just for that reason.

The red wasn't overspray,some PO had painted it and it was a bear to it get off.

Got it better than this but it took some time.

That one does pull it off really nicely, but I don't think mine would look good with black rims. It's just too much of one color. Behind the engine, the whole rear end is one undefined black blob except for the muffler, the rear wheel, and some dirt. A black rim would just get lost back there.

More grey rims, I went slightly darker than stock, because I polished up the spokes and wanted a nice contrast.

Well, I decided to brush the parts that were silver before and paint the accents gold, with clear over everything. Just paint for now; we'll see how it holds up. I think it looks pretty badass though...

I was going to suggest going with gold and polished ally but you've done it already. Looking sweet.

Sounds horrible in theory but looks very good in the flesh.
