As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Is it feasible to change out the stock points ignition with an electronic? I'm sure it is possible, just not sure if it's reasonable time and $ wise. It seems to me that it would be worth the doing. Any suggestions?
Thank you for any help,
Wayne

they sell a dyna system for it. theres a few on ebay. about $150. im thinking of getting one soon.

I believe the Dyna S is about 120 from Z1 Enterprises. I replaced my points out on the '79 750L this year with an older Dyna III I picked up on ebay. She starts and Idles better for sure, no real performance gains I suspect, unless your running like crap from bad points.

I also changed out the coils for Dyna coils as my plug wires were shot and I wanted a solution where I could change out the wires when I wanted. I also got them on ebay for a decent price.

Again, no real performance increase in the coils except if you have crappy wires and a weak spark to begin with.

They Dyna is a 1/2 hour change out, and the Coils about the same. Maybe a little longer if you don't read directions first (Like Me!).

Thanks guys. I just thought it would be easier to keep the bike tuned with the electronic ignition. Glad to hear it's not a big deal to do.

stock electronic ignition swap for stock points?

stock electronic ignition swap for stock points?

First, great site and forums. This is my first posting, but I've seen a lot of great advice and tips in here already.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but it was so close to what I wanted to ask I figured this would be a good place to do it.

What about swapping out the stock points for a stock electronic ignition?

I have a 79 GS550 as well but I need to make it go for low dough. I can probably find a stock electronic ignition for less than $20 and still eliminate the points system and gain reliability without forking out over $100. The points work now, but I wanted to help increase the reliability without spending money I don't really have. Advice?

Thanks!

Kelly

The stock ignition has magnitic pick up coils and an ignitor. Also, the coils may be different (not sure). Ignitors in particular can be quite expensive if you are purchasing on ebay. Considering this, I'd say just stay with points if cost is a big issue.
