Hey guys, I thought I would post a before and after thread to show the progress of the new big headlight. I was lucky enough to score and entire assembly from ebay off a gs1100e, and also got a nice lens assembly from gustovh(thanks). I just got back into town today from the boggie and after showering went straight to the shop to work on powdercoating the stuff. I took a few before and after pics of the assembly. I hopefully will get it mounted on the bike tomorrow.

I went with a low gloss black for the bucket and a black mini texture for the trim ring. I really gave it a lot of thought on what color to do it in... I figured with the light being so big and shiny I sould maybe tone it down a bit by going with the all black look...?? Hopefully I made the right call.

Once you get used to it .. all the other lights seem "too small".

Looks good.

very nice detailing. Did you powdercoat those headlamp ears silver/aluminum? Fits right in.

WoW
That looks great, the black fits right in with your color scheme.
Should light up the road nicely. Nice lookin bike BTW.

Nice work, the colour fits perfect for the overall scheme.
Like it lots

Hey Pos, the ears are done in the chrome powdercoat with the clear powder over the top... They are the same old ears that were on the bike all ready. Back when I first got the bike I thought the headlight stuck out too far so I had bent them back over on themselves and switched the sides around to pull the light in some. The side effect of doing that was I then needed little spacers to attach the light. By me simply taking those 3/4 inch spacers out the new big light bolted right up to the ears.

Thanks mriddle, dohc, pos and yaddy! I am geting a bit more used to the look it now. It also puts out a wider and brighter light which is a bonus.

Thanks to Billy for putting the idea in my head way back at the begining of the month.

Love the big lights...looks great...

Now...where did ya get the turn signals? I like those....

I was torn at first sight of the mod. But looking at both the BOM bike photo and the new photo side by side...... I'm digging the bigger light.

Since I own both an 1100EZ and a GS650G, I'll stick with the stockers. But bro, you are the man. Your 650G makes me proud to own one. And when I sell mine (as this might happen soon unfortunately), I might have to show someone your photos as what the potential for this bike could be!:)

Thanks man, the front lights are from a 83 gs1100s katana and the rear are from a 83 XN85 650 turbo.. They are the same shape and lens size as the OE 81 650g model.. just with the short stems..they even have the same little square deal that looks into the ears.... dual filament front and single filament rear. I had one set of clear lens, so I thought they would look best on the front to match the clear lens of the headlight... I think maybe K&L might have discontinued them.. The set I had I got like 3 years back from dennis kirk..

Thanks JT!!

Hey Maro, lol....thanks, I was and still am not used to it completly...but it is starting to grow on me. Ever since I saw last night how much more light it puts out... I now feel a bit better about it.... its not just an apperance mod now, its also I lighting performance mod, which makes me justify it better.

That is definately the baddest 650 I've ever seen. Does it have the stock fender on it?

Well...lol, thanks oshanac! Ya it is the stock fender.. although I was looking for a 650E front fender during the build, but could not find one, so I just used the original. I still like the look of the 650E one though with the little open triangles and such near the forks.. looks cool I think.

The only thing that really bothers me about the front end is the lower fork cover under the headlight. The thing with the reflectors on it. It would seem that suzuki has discontiuned the dam little emblem that goes in the middle if... not much of an item, a little badge that fits into that recess and has the suzuki stylized "S" in the middle. WTF, really?
I have been hunting around for the perfect sized suzuki sticker or something to go there, but have not found anything that is just right yet.
