Ok I'm a little confused. I was installing my DJ stage 3 kit and got to the needle section on their "recommendations" sheet and it said "..., using all stock spacers. Install the Dynojet washers above the E-clip." (in the 4th position from the top)

So that sound like from top down....Plastic Spacer, DJ washer, Circle Clip, OEM washer, Spring, Slide body? Right?

but when you look at the picture in their PDF for the Stage 3 kit for 80 GS750
http://www.dynojet.com/pdf/3315.pdf
It appears to have two washers between the Spring and circle-clip and a single washer above (which I assume is the OEM plastic spacer)

Do I have it backwards? The top of the needle is the back and point down so I'd assume when instructions say DJ washer on TOP of the circle-clip and going by the picture you remove the plastic spacer from the top. (and maybe it goes below?)

Anyway...Carbs are still off the bike and any guidance is appreciated!

Thanks ya'll

JT

"2. Install the Dynojet needles on groove #4, using all stock spacers. Install the Dynojet
washers above the E-clip."

install as it shows in the picture

...their picture doesn't match their wording...which one is right?

What's interesting is the GS650 instructions say use the DJ Washer BELOW the clip but shows the same picture! (http://www.dynojet.com/pdf/3310.pdf)

Stock arrangement from top to bottom, Plastic spacer, clip, washer, spring
If I go by their wording from top to bottom, Plastic Spacer, DJ Washer, clip, Washer, Spring.
If I go by their picture from top to bottom, Plastic Spacer, Clip, DJ Washer, Washer, Spring.

Well I know what I'm going to do...but this will not help the next soul trying to answer the same question...

Naw, I'll spend longer on the phone than it takes to swap if im wrong. I imagine I'll have to do tweaking to the kit anyway. Posted here asking to save the extra 20 min and for guys looking in the future as a resource.

you could just email them, carry on doing what you wanna do and then just see what their eventual reply is, just out of interest. an email only takes 5 minutes!

Quicker Than I thought! Impressed. DJ replied that the DJ washer should go under the clip instead of above the the clip

Note that anything you add between the clip and the spring only increases tension on the spring, it does NOTHING to change the position of the needle.

The grooves on the needle will allow changes of about 1mm. The washer is probably 0.5mm, allowing "half-groove" changes.

In spite of the answer from DJ, install the parts any way you want, and test them. If you need to make changes, you will know what you need to change, and how to do it. :D

Which is why I was going to assume it went above between the clip and the spacer. ..which is how I think I'll still install it and change if mid throttle is too rich.

Installing the washer between the clip and the spacer will lower the needle, making it leaner, not richer.

When assembled, the spring pushes the needle up, against the nylon piece at the top of the slide. Adding anything below the clip only increases spring tension. Adding anything above the clip will push the needle down, against the spring.

from tip up
spring
stock washer
e-clip

Thank you...I didn't put the brain power in it to think that through well enough.
