    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Well, I fixed my oil leak -> loose head bolt... This thing has alot of loose bolts on it apparently (exhaust bolts were loose, one is (!!) missing, as if it rattled loose before I got it)...

Now I have one more re-occurring issue to deal with. The oft-encountered gas-leaking from breathers issue...

Vents out the right-side breather under normal operation.

If I plug the right-side breather, it vents out the left side (but not as much). Engine performance suffers SEVERELY if both breathers aren't available (lean??).

Adding choke reduces/stops the flow untill I take the choke off, then it's back..

So, what should I look for...

Damaged float seats?

Float height wrong?

Air filter issues (it's in not-so-great-shape)?

I just detail-cleaned & re-synched the carbs, btw... Didn't replace any parts, though...

ALSO: When I got the bike, it had no airbox, and the 'stubs' of 4 UNI-brand pod filters (eg just the boots, with the foam part ripped off)... I put the stock airbox back on, but did not change the carb jetting, as I was not sure if the previous owner had done the pods 'right' (re-jet), or just tossed them on there as if it were a car. The carbs still have the air-screws sealed in place (EPA caps), so that wasn't tinkered with...
 
You called it.... i'd check both the float height and the float needle valve and seat
 
It would be a good idea to remove the float valve and replace the sealing O ring on the float valve assembly
 
Could any of the other things affect this?

Air filter condition?

Jetting (eg if it was re-jetted for pods, & I stuck the airbox on without a re-re-jet)?

Compression/valve clearance?

I want to know before I spend $70 on a carb-rebuild-kit off E-bay...

Carb rebuild kit -> 4 individual carb kits (4 each, gaskets, o-rings, factory jets, needle valve assembly, $69 shipped...

Most of the time, I see them for $17-$20 each.
 
Oh, for FOUR kits that makes sense...

I don't see any way your problem would be anything but the carb. At that, there's only two paths for fuel flow; one way is through the inlet valve, and the other is around it, via a dead O-ring. Look over the carb cleanup series and you'll see the one I mean.

Good luck -- that's always a problem that can tax the patience.
