As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

In April of 2014 I traded an old Jeep I didn't need for a barely running 81 gs1100e. It was only running on 2 cylinders and was obviously neglected for some time. I managed to ride it home keeping the choke on most of the way. I've been working on it a little here and a little there and even though it's not finished at least it's getting closer. I thought after all of the great info I've sourced from this site I should go ahead and put up a build thread. Thank you for any help you may have provided me on this!

This is how it looked when I went to get it.... I almost didn't take it.

Dig the kerker pipe. And looks like a non original tank from a 78 1000. Actually highly sought after.

That's a 78' 1000 tank, not the right one for you frame. Hard to find tank, you'd be better off to sell that to a member and get the right one you need.....please tell me you haven't cut the tank already.

I wish someone would have told me the tank was worth so much....it's long gone, i traded it for some misc parts I needed.
After some cleaning.jpg After some cleaning. Still running like crap. I decided to dive in deep....

tank inside.jpgThe tank was pretty rusty, I found a nearly mint 1100e tank on ebay and pulled the trigger.

Carbs and Tank installed.jpgAlso purchased a set of Slingshot Carbs from fleabay. This is a shot of the bike after the new tank and carbs were installed. This was around March of this year. The bike was running decent at this point so I decided to dive into some more cosmetic stuff.

Before Seat and Frame hack.jpgThis is a shot of the bike for referance pre-frame and tail hack. I really hated the seat and tail section. Too long and it didn't flow with the tank. In this picture you can also see that I've changed the bars for clip-ons and the Kerker exhaust is at a buddies house being welded on.

Frame Hack.jpgNot a great picture but you can see where I hacked the rear frame section that holds the tail cowl on.

Tail Shortened and working on seat pan.jpgThe Support bracket for the tail cowl was welded back on and the tail section was reinstalled. In this picture I'm also mocking up a seat pan with foam board. I'm loving the way the tail and tank flow together now!

Daughter.jpgMy daughter wanted to try out the new seat! This is basically how it sits now. I've started working on new side covers from sheet metal and I'll post some pics up soon with those. I also plan on shrinking the front fender. Now if the weather was just warmer! Below is a list of all of the mods/repairs etc. I've done to the bike.

Round headlight + CNC Black Brackets
Clip-on Bars + White Grips
Bar end mirrors
Gauge cluster delete (What a PITA!)
Bandit Speedo
Tach Delete Plug
Correct Fuel tank + Pet Cock rebuild
89 GSXR 750 Slingshot Carbs - MJ=150, PJ=37.5
K&N Dual Oval Filters
Blue Fuel Lines
Rebuilt Starter Clutch
Valve Lash Adjusted
Valve Cover Gasket (removed a bunch of red goop that wasn't keeping the oil in!)
Shortened Tail Section
Custom Seat Pan and Seat
Custom License plate bracket
Aftermarket Signals and Flasher Relay
Throttle Tube replaced
Repaired Leaky Kerker Exhaust (It's good to know a welder)
Started Polishing Engine cases

Things on the list to still do:
Finish Side Covers
Finish polishing and cleaning
Vinyl Wrap front forks and Speedo housing
Aftermarket rearsets - already purchased

Again thanks for anyone who unknowingly helped me with this build by posting to this forum!

Ride.jpg Out for a ride finally! Its running like crap at low throttle/idle. Lots of popping and a bog at less than 1/4 throttle. I believe I need to adjust the float heights. Other than that this bike screams!
