    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

'81 450 Carbs/Airbox - Where do these bits belong?

The rubber/plastic bits attached to my carbs there, where do they belong?

I've looked through Flaming Chainsaws' cleaning guide and the Clymer and can't see them in either. They don't exist according to the fiche on Alpha Sports.

To me, it looks like they belong inside the airbox, but I'm not 100% sure.

I need to get them off to clean the carbs and if they're part of the airbox, then I just need them off as I have no plans to put the airbox back in.

Hi,

They are number 4 and 5 in the Air Cleaner parts fiche:

01.gif

4 = Part# 13881-44100
Desc: OUTLET LH

5 = Part# 13882-44100
Desc: OUTLET RH

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Cheers for the input guys, much appreciated.

I couldn't tell if that's what they were on the fiche as they don't exactly look like that, but glad to see I know now so thanks all, I can now proceed...

This thread is very interesting. I always wondered about the gaps between my carb and airbox and I looked today and one of these things was pushed all the way into my airbox and the other is nowhere to be found. I imagine that these would be pretty important when using the stock airbox, can anyone speak to that? maybe you just found out why my bike would never run quite right. =)
I think I need those rubber things you speak of.
Any idea what to ask for when I go looking for them?

They're absolutely critical when using the stock airbox. If you don't have them, the carbs will suck air straight from the atmosphere, bypassing the controlled and filtered volume of the airbox, making it run very lean and you'll probably end up with a hanging idle and symptoms like that.

Go to www.alphasports.com and look on the parts fiche for the air cleaner and you will see parts 4 and 5 as BassCliff showed earlier in this thread.

Use the part numbers in the fiche to get them ordered. I normally order from Boulevard Suzuki and they have them for a highly (in)expensive $8.50 each...

I'd ship you mine from here for the cost of shipping, but the shipping will probably make it dearer than just buying new locally...

hey Pete, how well were those rubber things on the carb? I'm having a heck of a time with trying to get them on the carb and in the airbox.
When I put them on the carb first they fall off when I try to put them in the airbox.
When I try to put them in the airbox first the carb pushes them through into the airbox. I wish the airbox didnt have a metal screen in it preventing me from putting my hand in so I can hold it in place.

Yeah I've heard there's a real trick to it!

They were on my carbs with some sort of gummy residue, so while they weren't glued as such, they were a bit difficult to get off.

I'm not sure if a PO somewhere along the line has stuck them on there with something or not, but it certainly seemed like it.

Unfortunately I can't help with any tips there because I haven't put the airbox back in, so I've never tried to remount it or get the carbs in the intake pipes...

I know I've seen other threads on here with tips on getting them in, might need to do some more searching...
